Comments : We received the update that our interview was ready to be scheduled on May 14 and our interview was scheduled on May 23 (interview on July 2). We're interviewing in the Los Angeles city office (versus LA county).

Our interview was very stressful and seemed to be done by an inexperienced interviewer. He wanted to check my husband's military records again, so we received a form that said our case was continuing review. However, two business days later we received a notice that a new card was being produced.

Event Description

Embassy Review : My fiance and I got to the embassy around 7:45am for his 8:30am appointment. I think the embassy opens at 8am because he was only second in line. I had emailed the embassy to see if I could enter (answer was no) and there's actually a large permanent plaque on the wall that says petitioners cannot enter.

We were staying at Hotel Best right across the street (200 TL a night when we showed up with no reservation), so I went back to the hotel to wait. I was planning to head back to wait at the embassy after ~2 hours, but my fiance showed up at the hotel room barely 30 minutes after he entered. He said that everything went very smoothly despite all the staff stopping work for 15 minutes due to either a drill or threat where they all hid under their desks.

As others have mentioned, the first woman he spoke with was very unpleasant and curt with him (I think this must be intentional to put people on edge). She asked him for all his documents and tried to give him an issue about his Nufus Kayit Ornegi not having some seal but he told her that how the Turkish authority issued it. My fiance started giving her our relationship advice and at a certain point she was like "okay, okay that's enough, if we need more we'll ask for it."

The second women who interviewed him was very nice and my fiance actually enjoyed the conversation.
- How did you meet your fiance?
- How many siblings does she have?
- How did you propose? (In Morocco, etc.)
- Why did you decide to go to Morocco? (We wanted to go since her MBA program was organizing a trip and we spent the week before just ourselves)
- What is your fiancee's job?
- How much does she make a year?
- Couple other general questions about our relationship and our various trips
- (After my fiance mention that me and my parents were visiting) Are they going to meet your parents in Urfa this trip? (No, timing didn't work out and they don't want to go to an area that the U.S. advises against traveling to at the moment)
- Why did you decide to get married in the U.S.? (My fiance said something about me having a good job and not having enough vacation days left in the year for another trip to Turkey)
- When will the wedding be? (August 11th and he show her our printed wedding invitation that she liked a lot)
- How big will the wedding be? (He said he wasn’t sure since I’ve been handling all the planning, but a lot)
- Will any of your family attend the wedding? (Yes, about 10 people from Turkey will attend and he said how they were related to him)
- Will you have a wedding in Turkey? (Yes, next year and then we will take our honeymoon afterwards)
- You will have your honeymoon in Urfa?! (No, we will go to the Maldives or the Bahamas)

My fiance said the interview was much more like a conversation and the questions were mostly driven by his answers to previous questions. The interviewer then said that he was approved and gave him the domestic abuse pamphlet. Both of his conversations were conducted in Turkish.

Our packet was ready for pickup the following Tuesday. Our packet came with a tear in it and we emailed pictures of the embassy and they had us mail it back so that they could repack it.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
