Consulate Review: London, United Kingdom
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 18, 2017
Embassy Review : I had my K1 interview on Tuesday 17th Oct. at the London Embassy. I arrived at around 12:45 (interview at 13:00) after a horrendous time with train delays in the north of England. I stored my things at Goulds Pharmacy on the same street as the Embassy for £3. I was advised by them that I didnt have anything prohibited anyway (even though I had chargers, cables, headphones, power bank etc) but didnt want to risk being late if I was sent away from security screening.

After I stored my bag I approached the lady in the tent outside and gave her my DS-160 receipt and my passport. She crossed me off her list and sent me over to the officers opposite. The officers were joking around with me a little about how young I am (?) and sent me to the security check. Its just like an airport clearence excpet much quicker (no queue). Then I walked around the outside of the building, up some big steps and inside the embassy. I handed the guy (very nice Londoner) my passport and DS-160 and he gave me multiple stickers with my 'I' number. Then I took a seat in the waiting room. As many people have mentioned its exactly like a big post office with lots of seats and lots of windows.

After 1 min my number appeared on the screen and I went to the window to hand in my documents: Passport, birth certificate, police certificate, passport picture and fiancee's finacial documents. She took my fingerprints and told me to sit back down.

It was around 45 mins before I was called back. Whilst waiting I did notice that there was only one window serving immigrant (I) visas - window 13. So I knew I was in for a wait when a pattern emerged. I was immigrant number I917 and when I sat down I912 was being interviewed.
The officer that interviewed me was really nice, but kinda stern. He slipped all the questions into a brief conversation lasting no more than 5 mins. The ones I can remember:

- Who is petitioning you?
- How did you guys meet? (university)
- I see hes in the military: what job does he do?
- What rank is he?
- When did he join the military?
- You met in the military? (no we met at university)
- How old is he?
- Where is he now (I assume because hes on a military base and not at home)
- Where are his family?
- When was the last time you saw him?
- How long have you been together? (3 years)
- Has he been back to the UK since university (yes)
- When do you plan to get married?
- When do you plan to enter the US?
- You plan to live in North Carolina? (yes)

And then he said: ok you're APPROVED!

And I said thank you and walked out of the embassy

The only thing I can really add to what other people have said is 1) You CAN take your charger and headphones in with you (I saw multiple people using them and the security guys confirmed it was fine). And 2) It seems there are lots of people with the same interview time as you, you get served on a first come first serve basis. So I was the last one to be crossed off the list for 13:00 appointments (from what I could see). So I got given number I917. People who arrived earlier than I did got I912,913,914 etc. even though it seems to me they had the same interview time slot.

All in all, nothing to worry about at all! Any questions, drop me a message!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
