Consulate Review: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 24, 2017
Embassy Review : We had our interview scheduled for 8:15 am, but we were so anxious, went at 645 am. Already a long line around the building. Started to screen people at 7 am. Despite the crowd, it was reasonably well organized. The waiting wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. She and her daughter got checked in and given a number. Of course, the numbers before and after kept getting called, but I assume this was due to different types of visas. After about an hour, we were called up for a document check. The person was really nice and verified that the i134, birth certificates, house book and DS160, as well as police check #2 were correct. Gave us back a bunch of extra copies that we made. About an hour later, we were called up for our interview. We were sworn in and the CO asked me a couple of questions. I was so nervous, I don't remember what he asked LOL.
After that, asked me to sit down, then asked my fiancee about 6 questions. Mostly stuff about where I was born, how we met, Asked her about my previous marriage and children. Were my dad lived. Flipped really quickly through our stack of photos. Didn't bother with the chat logs. After that, he said congratulations, your visa is approved!! We then went to fill out the EMS shipping label for her passport. All in all, not the scariest experience. Everything from line to exit took about 3 hours.
We checked in our phones and got them back upon exiting. They say no big bags, but saw a couple of people with literal suitcases of stuff. Anyway, it was definitely worth it being there with her.
One other observation, you could definitely tell who was approved and who wasn't as the walk to the exit lead past everyone else waiting.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
