Event Description

Embassy Review : I arrived at 7:10am for an 8:00am appointment. I was told to wait somewhere else until 7:50. They took me into the embassy then. I had to show my passport and they checked the list. They took about 30 of us in at the same time. They had written everywhere that they don't take electronics, watches and bags. I had brought a bag, so I had to leave it across the street at the corner store and pay the man there 5 lira to keep it for me. I went through security and they put a sticker on my passport and gave me two numbers on a perforated piece of paper. When my number came up I went to the window. There was a Turkish woman and she asked for my birth certificate (Nufus kayidi ornegi), health exam results, police report, an updated copy of the petitioner's retirement fund beneficiary as proof of relationship and two pictures. She also asked for a few pictures, but I had taken 4 photo albums and they didn't fit under the window even with me pushing and her pulling. We laughed, then she asked if I had any other proof of relationship. I gave a printout of our WhatsApp chat history. She said she would take the albums through another opening if the officer really wanted them. Then I sat down again. I waited about 2 hours, then my number came up again. The American officer swore me in and took my fingerprints. Then she asked:
1. How long have you been married?
2. How did you meet?
3. Is she living in Turkey or the US?
4. What does she do in Turkey?
5. Where are you going in the US?
6. Why are you going there?
7. Do you have job applications in the US?

Then she started stamping the documents. Then she said it was done and I would get my passport back in 5 days. I asked again to clarify if I was approved, and she said yes.

Overall everything was smooth and way easier than I was expecting. The actual interview took about 2 minutes.

We had gotten a checklist for W2s for 2016, and I had our 2016 transcripts with me, but they never asked for them. The request for the updated copy of my wife's retirement account information was surprising, but thankfully I had it with me. The lady said everything should be updated if it's older than 6 months, so just as a reminder to others, take updated information!

Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
