This is a two status post.
1. If you have a green card, get Global Entry! No question whatsoever as to its usefulness in any POE that has the kiosks. Out in literally minutes... and had to wait for 3+ hrs for my GF who had at the time an F1 visa and on OPT. Computers went down as she's waiting. So she waited...
2. We had done all the research possible on F1 OPT travel and there is minimal info out there. Most schools will tell you "don't travel" so that they aren't raising false expectations. The reality is very different.
She knew a couple of her classmates with F1 OPT had traveled out and gotten minimal to maximum levels of harassment by CBP. In her case, as I mentioned, the CBP computer system went down as she's waiting to be processed in SeaTac. Finally she gets up to the window, guy looks at her Singaporean passport with valid F1, her valid EAD, and her valid I-20 and asks her what is it that she's doing for work. She tells him she's doing finance work for a startup and that she also sits on the board of a non profit. CBP guy says "you must be pretty busy" while stamping her passport. She smiles and agrees. Total time spent waiting in line, 3:30 hrs. Total time spent at window, less than 1 min. |
