Consulate Review: Mumbai, India
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 28, 2007
Embassy Review : PRAISE THE LORD........
MUMBAI consulate is soooooooo goooooood .......got our CR1 visa
Since we didnt have any relative living close to the mumbai consulate so we took the coupons from VFS .....so that even if its not possible for my Wife to come inside the consulate alongwith me, she can sit in the VFS lounge........Vfs people had told us to come at 0715 am.......but we reached VFS at 0645 and their were already 8-10 people their......at 0710 we were inside the "STARS AND STRIPES"
lounge of the VFS..........and they gave us snacks and coffe........and at 0740 they took us to the consulate..........and we reached their in few minutes........and since my was not allowed inside the consulate she returned back in the same bus to the VFS lounge......and one VFS employee took us inside directly to the gate....and we went separately without standing in the looooong existing QUeue whom were standing since 06 am or before.......as when we were going to VFS earlier we saw the long queue...........it was nice to see that 200 rs can save us from that line........lol....
and in the gate the normal procedure........take out your belt, watches, wallet and everything inside your pockets........and after going through the items and passing through the metal detector they will give you a wooden stick...and you have to return back that .......dont know whats that for...... since after checking the interview form only they are sending us inside so what does that wooden stick do to validate that, i cldnot understand that.........anyway we enter from the left hand side of the consulate hall........and my interview letter is taken by an employee...........the immigration applicants have to sit in the far side of the hall.....that is enter from left hand side and turn right walk straight to the right hand corner of the hall and sit their..........then starts the waiting game.. first they calls each and everybody to give back the documents you submitted earlier......either at NVC or at the VFS office....they only keeps the PCC and the Copy of the Birth Certificate......
this is done in the language which is mentioned in the DS-230 form.....so if you speaks only gujarati the name will be called in gujarati also the counter # also pronounced in gujarati....since i knew only ENglish, Hindi and Malayalam.....so my name was called in English and the official talked to me in english........he asked whether its my first marriage...whats your wifes name.......is this her first marriage.......he was noting it that in the form.......and asked about my family name ......returned all the original documents, and asked you wld be talking in english to the consular officer......also took my passport..........and asked to wait......
and all the people waiting for this IV were called to the counters on the right hand side...
this was completed till 0900 am.......and then again waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting... hey dont get bored what i do.........that happend with me......lol......and from 1030 only they began to call the candidates for the interview......and my name came at 1105......and i went inside....to the 13 # counter.....their was two persons .....one US citizen of asian origin......can be chineese or philippino.........dont know........but she was huge...........other was the translator[to speak in Gujarathi, marath etc].....and then begin the questions....
my name ....my wifes name........ what her job........how did you two met...........and which matrimonial website.......did she came to india.....and where do you went for honeymoon.....what did you saw their.............what do you like most about your wife.......show some pics, other than the wedding pics.......i showed some pics.......she looked each one of them.......and then came out the words.....your visa is approved and you will get your PASSPORT in 3-5 days.......and all this interview was done in 5-6 mins.......no documents asked and no evidence of relationship...infact at the VFS i didnt had submitted any evidence of relationship other that some 25-30 emails.....no phone records submitted..........so it was great.........and i went out of the consulate and ya i gave that wooden stick piece back to the security official.............
since their was no bus available at that moment back to VFS where my wife was waiting for me... i jumped inside a taxi and went to VFS and told her about the approval.......
we picked our passport at 0515 pm from the VFS office.......thats it...........
thaaaaaaank you everybody for all the support .....this site was soooooooooo great and now my wife says i am spending tooooo much time viewing this site.....lol............we will fly to DALLAS before 19th march....didnt got the confirmed tickets yet.......
once again thaaaaaaaaaaanx 2 ALL.........

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
