It was a bit chaotic when we arrived at the border, my fiancé and myself along with my children (5) and one large dog. The dog had to be placed in a kennel outside the building while our visas were processed which he cried the entire time and could be heard from inside. The gentleman processing our visas was through and asked quite a few questions. Another border services agent was kind and gave my kids crayons and colouring books to help keep them occupied during the process. We were however travelling with over $10,000 in cash which was not really an issue we just made sure we declared all the money we had and explained its origins, signed some paperwork with regards to it and once that was done we were on our way. The process was about an hour. |

The waiting for an interview date felt like an eternity!
The interview itself was not so bad, the office who conducted our interview was friendly but professional. He asked fair simple questions, how / where we met, what our wedding was like, etc. He then went through all our paperwork and suggested we needed more bona fides to prove our marriage was in fact legit, that was nerve wracking. We discussed what we did have and explained why we did not have more at the time. The officer accepted what we said and told us we would need to add more for when we interview again for the removal of conditions. So we're busy doing just that while enjoying our lives together and the reprieve from the chaos of the immigration process. |

My fiancé flew up to be at the interview with myself and my children (he applied for K2 visas for them). We arrived at the consulate 30 minutes prior to our interview time. There was no line and the gentleman at the door let us in and we gave our documents to be checked in and were given our number along with a checklist for documents needed and then sent through security. We made sure to leave all phones and electronics behind so we had no issues going through. Up the elevator we went and thankfully when we arrived we saw there was an area or kids to play so the wait would hopefully not be too bad. It took a little over an hour for our number to be called, I went up to the window, passed all the information the gentleman asked for in the order he asked (which was not the order printed out of the sheet given to us downstairs), I had to give a bit more information as they were processing both K1/K2 visas but I knew that and had everything ready. The gentleman was polite and very helpful, once he had everything in order he sent me to sit again and wait for my number to be called, that part took a fair bit of time about an hour and 15 minutes - I can only assume because there was a a lot of paperwork to read through. When I got called the gentleman had me bring in each of my kids to prove they were the kids on the passports and then we continued with the process. He asked a few simple questions, how did you meet, how often do you see each other, what does he do for a living, what did I do for a living and that was that. When he said welcome to the United States I was over the moon! I ran out to tell my fiancé and the kids we can move home. |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
