Consulate Review: Juarez, Mexico

Embassy Review : Writing this with the help of my fiancé....

First of all Arturo is from Mexico City, Mexico, so some aspects will be different than other Mexican beneficiaries...

Citizens of Distrito Federal (Mexico City) preform their medical exam and their biometrics in CDMX (Mexico City). Beneficiaries from other parts of Mexico will conduct these appointments in Ciudad Juarez.

First things first we filed a DS 160, paid approx $260 and scheduled our biometrics appointment in CDMX and for our consulate interview in Ciudad Juarez. We did this on August 20th and there were no appointments available until September 20th or so. We chose to do it in October to give us some time to make a little money... anyway moving on...

Then several weeks later he made an appointment for his medical exam. Do not call to make this appointment more than 3 weeks prior to your interview in Juarez. They will just tell you to call back later.

The medical exam in CDMX was conducted at an office in Hamburgo. He took with him to that appointment his passport, vaccine records, his ds 160,letter sent to him from the consulate, and his letter confirming his appointment date in Juarez. Don’t come to early to your medical exam or they won’t let you in, you’ll just be standing around. When the hour of his appointment came, they let him inside, they asked for his papers and told him to sit down in some chairs. They called him back and he was given a FULL medical exam ( height, weight, blood drawn, urine test, chest X-ray). The doctor asked if he had tattoos, if he did drugs. Oh and they will look at your privates so don’t be surprised, it is as I said a FULL exam. Also you will be asked if you want needed vaccines administered to you there or in USA. You don’t need them all to be approved for K1 visa. After the medical exam they told him to come back in 4 hours and pick up his results. DO NOT OPEN THE SEALED PACKAGE GIVEN TO YOU CONTAINING YOUR RESULTS.

Ok so like a week after the medical he went for his biometrics which is conducted in a building right infront of the medical exam place in Hamburgo. To this appointment he took with him his passport, ds 160, and appointment letter. He got in line, they took his papers, they sent him to another room where his picture and finger prints were taken. Then that’s it, they handed him back his passport and they had pasted a sticker on the back of it stating his name and date of interview in Juarez. Arturo says beware of scammers and theives lurking around this area preying on nervous people waiting in line. Just a heads up

Ok then Juarez... I flew from Nueva York and he flew from CDMX on the 21st and our appointment was the 23rd. I advise to arrive early because you never can predict plane delays and such. Cuidad Juarez is very nice imo. No smog like CDMX 😅 and MUCH less crowded. The people in Juarez also are very friendly and laid back. We both very much enjoyed our time in the beautiful state of Chihuahua. Anyway, we stayed at the IBIS hotel for 3 nights for approx $2,000 pesos ( approx $100 USD). Personally I think is the best hotel for this because you can very easily walk to the consulate AND the mall😏 (we went to see “ESO” and did some shopping). And there is a very nice 24 hour restaurant right infront of the IBIS hotel. (Don’t order the comida china 🤢 order Mexican food lol) the ibis hotel is clean and the rooms were nice enough. Also this is a given but Uber don’t taxi!

Ok now for the actual interview. His interview was 9:45 am. He didn’t leave the hotel room until 9:20, that’s how close the walk is from ibis hotel. The guard asks to see your papers and passport. You can’t bring in watch, cell phone anything like that, just bring yourself and your paper work. Once u pass security you have a seat in some chairs until the guard tells you to approach a window. You give them you papers and then are instructed to sit back down until your interview. When it was his turn to approach a window for his interview he was interviewed by a nice gringa. Your interview can be in español or ingles. She asked “how did you meet” “tell me about the development of your relationship” “what do you and your fiancée do for work” “tell me about your wedding plans” and she said “felicidades tu visa esta aprobada” (approved! 😏) he walked back to the hotel with a green slip and we cried of joy (me not we 🙄)

We returned to CDMX to wait for the visa to be delivered via DHL to Tlalnepantla. It took an agonizing 8 days but it came no problems. You’ll get an email a couple days free your approval with a DHL tracking number. In your DHL package will be your passport and a sealed manila envelope DO NOT OPEN THE DEALED ENVELOPE! Your passport will have a visa inside it.

Sorry my review is long winded but the reviews of others helped me a lot and I know it’s comforting to have info before you go into such a thing. God bless anyone reading this. Vayan con Dios amigos -Claire and Arturo

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
