Local US CIS Office Review: Hartford CT
Review Topic: cis_topic
Event Description
Review Date : May 30, 2017
Embassy Review : My husband had his AOS biometrics appointment scheduled for June 9, 2017 at the East Hartford Application Support Center. The day and time were inconvenient for us and the office is quite far away, so we decided to attempt a walk-in on a day that was more convenient for us.

We arrived at around 11 AM on 5/30/2017. The office was deserted; we were the only people there when we first arrived. As we were waiting about 2-3 more people arrived. They gave us a bit of a hard time, and made a big deal about where my husband could sit in the waiting room vs. where I could sit as we waited. My husband was called into the office of the person who decided whether to accept walk-ins. He was jokey and friendly enough, but was clearly unhappy that we were doing a walk-in. He asked my husband if he would normally show up 10 days early for a doctor's appointment. My husband showed him the appointment letter, which said that most offices accept walk-ins if staff time allows.

Then the staff member came out to find me and said "Is this her? Was it her idea to do a walk-in?" and chided me by literally wagging his finger at me. It was in a joking way, but it still made me feel very uncomfortable. If they weren't accepting walk-ins, they should have just said so and we would have left. I feel that this staff member was taking advantage of how nervous and on-edge people are about immigration, and was having a bit of a laugh at how nervous and apologetic we were when he scolded us.

We waited for about ten minutes before my husband was called to have his fingerprints and photo taken.

The visit was very quick with almost no wait time, but we both left feeling very anxious and like we shouldn't have attempted a walk-in, even though it worked out for the best for us.
Harassment Level : Moderate

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
