My Port of Entry was ARUBA, it went very smooth and without any complications, the airport wasn't very packed that day because it wasn't a holiday or weekend, it took us about 20 min in the line, then in the booth it was a female officer, she was very nice with me, she asked us how was my flight to Aruba, she asked how much cash I carried with me, if I had any seeds or meets in my suitcases, then she took my package and told me to sit down a little and wait, after 20 min another officer came outside and asked me if the address I want to receive my green card is the same as the documents say, I said yes and she handed me my passport stamped and told me everything is good, you're good to go! that't it! I was so happy I couldn't believe it, after that when I flied to Miami, it's like a domestic flight, once you get there you only take your suitcases and leave because I already passed immigration at Aruba. |

This post is about our experience with the CR1 visa interview at the US embassy of Caracas.
We left the day before to prevent any delays and risking not being able to make it on time to the interview since the situation in Venezuela currently is very bad and dangerous, there’s protests and people close the streets and it gets impossible to get to other cities, that’s why we stayed in a nearby hotel about 10 min away from the embassy, my interview was at 9:00am and we got there about 8:30am, they will let you inside the embassy even if you arrive earlier.
As soon as you enter the embassy you must know that you can’t bring in any electronic devices (cellphones, mp3, iPod, etc) also no lighters, matches, or any sharp objects, and make sure you don’t bring in the CD with the x-ray to the embassy, only the white envelope the Dr. gives you, we brought it with us and they told me I have to leave it in the lockers outside of the embassy which will cost you 3000bsF (cash only)
Once you pass the first check point, you will go through another check point exactly like an airport, then you will go to a waiting area, then go find somebody from the staff and tell them you have an appointment for the immigrant visa and they will lead you to another waiting room where you will take a number and wait.
There we waited about 30 minutes and somebody called us for a first interview, it was a very nice male officer, he took my birth certificate, my medical exam and passport photo, he was asking basic questions such as my husband full name, his address, my full name, what’s the longest I’ve stayed in the united states, if we have been married before, how long we’ve been married, it was very simple and he was very polite the whole time, this interview lasted about 15min. In this interview my husband was standing next to me in front of the window. We were then asked to sit down and wait until we get called up again. We waited about 3 hours until they finally called us again. This was the longest wait we had to do at the embassy. As we were sitting down, we got to hear other people’s interviews and got to hear the common questions that were asked. They called my name and my husbands and I went to the window where another male officer was waiting for us. We were asked to swear that everything we say is going to be true. We both said I swear, and he asked my husband to be seated and that he will call him if he needed him, and then 2nd interview started.
This 2nd interview was about 20 minutes; also the officer was very polite and friendly. He asked me questions like: how I met my husband? How we started our relationship? How many times we saw each other before and after we got married? How many countries I have visited? Where I live? How the marriage happened? Did your husband come here only for the interview? Everything that I was saying he was typing. If it wasn’t for this, the interview would have been very fast. They also pay attention to small details such as wearing your wedding ring and the fact that my husband was with me; makes it a lot easier. After all this, he told me that everything looks good, you are approved. You just need to wait 2-3 weeks to receive your passport with the visa. I was so shocked and excited that I couldn’t believe it, especially because they did not ask me for any type of proof. I even asked him if he wanted to look at any pictures. He told me no, everything is good. I had a big binder with documents showing our bonafide relationship, such as the joint bank accounts, receipts of items that we have purchased for our house, flight itineraries of all my husbands visits and our trips together, our wedding album, our wedding hotel reservations and contract, and more pictures with family. They didn’t ask me to show them any of these. The officer pays a lot of attention to how confident you are, how well you know your relationship and how honest you are.
Good luck to everyone if you are going through the same process, it is very hard being away from your spouse for so long and requires a lot of patience, but it will all be worth it in the end.
