Comments : The officers at the North Dakota/Manitoba border (Walhalla) were very angry and rude to us that we were coming through on their shift. They kept coming back to us saying we were missing papers from the envelope I gave them. It was a sealed envelope from the embassy. Everything they needed should be in there. They also kept coming back and quizzing us with questions about our relationship, asking for the exact number of times each of us went to visit the other and the exact dates. They had never done a k1 before and we were scared that they would not let us through. They made us wait three hours before finally letting us go. It was very stressful, worrisome and overall the worst experience I've had entering the United States. I will never cross at that border crossing ever again.

Consulate Review: Vancouver, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 6, 2016
Embassy Review : No electronics (cell phones) or big bags. I only carried my folder of papers with me. I was lucky that my aunt lived near Vancouver and knew how to travel the skytrain, so she accompanied me there. She had to wait outside for me though when I went in. I did notice some parking garages down that street, but parking in Vancouver is very expensive. It was raining outside where we had to wait, so I had my raincoat on. My appointment was for 8am. I had left early to make sure I wasn't late and got there around 7am. You will have to wait outside until about 15 to 30 minutes until your appointment time. A person came out every 15 minutes calling out the appointment time they were accepting inside. They ask you to remove everything from pockets, take off jacket, watch, and place in bucket. They go through your passport and other papers, while you walk through metal detector. They hand you back your belongings and you go up in elevator where a guard escorts you. (If you need bathroom go before entering elevator - no bathroom on the interview floor). I only waited about 10 to 15 minutes before my number was called. Interviewer was pleasant. I had my fingerprints taken and he asked for certain papers that I brought with me. He asked questions such as how did we meet? Have I met his family? How did that go? Describe your relationship from beginning until now. How did he propose? Questions that you should have no problem answering. All in all, the process there is very smooth.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
