Consulate Review: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description

Embassy Review : My interview was today and everything was pretty smooth and as fine as people say here.

I am from Rio and I decided to leave early because my interview was scheduled at 7:20 am and to avoid hitting any possible traffic on my way to the consulate. I arrived at 6:30 am and waited next to the consulate for about 50 minutes, while people started gathering on the line waiting for instructions. A guy in a red Polo (who I believe was Alex) came, checked our names and interview schedule and guided us to the second floor of the consulate.

There he gave us two pieces of paper: one with a list and order of documents to be organized and the other with some basic information to be filled. He instructed us, answered our questions about this part and explained that after filling and organizing everything he would call us one by one to check the documents. He was very nice during the process, asking if I was nervous and trying to calm people down.

Done with that, we sat in a different row of chairs waiting to hand the documents now reorganized by him to the people through the glass. This is when they get your fingerprints, ask some questions to verify if all of your information are correct. There was just one moment when I got really nervous when the lady asked for the Affidavit of my fiancé and I didn't have it with me, just the one of my co-sponsor (his mom). The steps were not very clear about bringing one for the fiancé when he was not able to be the "real" sponsor (he is a student and supports himself with loans), and we understood that it was just necessary for the co-sponsor in this case. The lady said that it would depend of the consul decision and maybe I would need to send them by mail

After that I sat again in a different line waiting for the interview. I waited there for 30 minutes (I was the third) when the consul called me. He was a really nice American guy. He got some fingerprints made me do the oath and asked me those basic questions:
How did you meet?
Have you ever been in America?
Did your fiance meet your family?
How are you going to support yourself in America?

After answering them he said "Congratulations, your visa was approved!" and I got really happy! This whole process was very long and I couldn't believe that it is over! (At least the K1 part). I asked him about sending the Affidavit that was missing and he said that it was not needed, my answers were enough

My advices are to be calm, be sure that you have all the documents needed and be sincere and confident when talking to them and you will be fine!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
