Consulate Review: Moscow, Russia
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : September 30, 2016
Embassy Review : My fiancee had her interview on September 7th. The interview was brief and went well with friendly discussion. However, the CO questioned a past employment and a current employment. She received the 221g for Admin Review and she was asked to email her resume to the embassy. After doing some research, we believe it might have been because of the MANTIS check for those with a background related to the Technology Alert System (TAL), but we cannot confirm this speculation with any evidence. From what we know, this is a common occurrence.

She emailed the resume that same day and we checked daily on the CEAC web site for the status of the case. Because we did not receive any information with details, we could only rely on the Status Date changing. It updated once after they received the resume and again a day later, likely because the CO requested an Admin Review. Three weeks passed with no update and on September 26, the date was updated. The very next day, the CEAC case was updated from an Immigrant Visa to Non-Immigrant Visa and the Creation Date was updated as well (we knew from research that this meant the visa was finally being processed). The next day, on September 28th, the status changed to Issued and she was able to pick up the visa from the embassy the following day, September 29th.

Overall, the process was fairly easy, though the total K1 Visa process feels lengthy. I think everybody understands this.

My fiancee has always had good experiences with the Moscow embassy, as she has traveled to and has lived in the US before. It's easy to deduct points from the rating because of the Administrative Processing delay, but this is something that happens frequently and, frankly, we expected 4-6 weeks instead of 3 weeks, so that's a positive result and we will still rate the embassy as a 5/5. Feel free to message us if you have any questions.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
