Biometrics Taken : Yes
Harassment Level : 0
Comments : I actually was processed at Trudeau airport in Montreal. All went well, I had arrived about 3.5 hours in advance of my flight to Chicago, which turned out to be unnecessary since I was only held at secondary customs for about 20 minutes or so. Tho woman who processed me was kind and reminded me that I had 90 days to get married. No hassle at all!

Comments : The interview at the San Francisco USCIS office went smoothly! The agent was very kind, and it was much less nerve wracking than I had anticipated. The agent first reviewed my I-485 and verified that all the info (address, birth date, etc...) were correct. He then asked my husband questions about our courtship and marriage. He asked for evidence of the relationship, and he kept most of what we brought along to the interview (photos, lease agreement, joint bank account statements, joint health insurance policies, etc...). He informed us at the end of the interview that my I-485 was approved pending a routine security check. Later that week I checked my USCIS case status and it said the card was in the mail. I received it a few days later!

Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : December 1, 2015
Embassy Review : Had my interview December 1 in Montreal. I woke up early to give myself enough time to arrive at the consulate at 7, as suggested by other reviews. I got there just after 7 and there were about 5 people already in line. Everyone was kind and we chatted about our respective visas etc. At around 7:30 a guard came outside to set up cordons so that we could form a single file line to the right of the door. Soon thereafter we were let in one at a time, where we presented our appointment letter to a woman who checked the info on the appointment letter against what I'm guessing was a schedule of the day's appointments on an ipad. Passed through an airport-like security situation and had to check my phone and water. We were sent to the basement where we waited another 10 minutes or so, until we were told to take an elevator up to the nineteenth floor. When we exited the elevator a woman directed the crowd to the left if they were there for a visa and to the right if we were there for an immigration issue (so even though the K1 is technically a visa, you will be seated with the immigration crowd).
I was then called up to a window where a nice man took my passport and 2 passport size photos and fingerprints, fiddled on his computer a little, verified my home and US address and then collected my other documents (medical (no xray), photocopy of passport bio page, police check, birth certificate and copy, I-134, fiance's most recent tax return, letter of intent to marry).
after looking over the documents and filling out some papers on his end, he handed me a page with information about the K1 visa and domestic violence and told me to have a seat and I will be called for the interview.
I waited about 15 minutes and was called into another room (no door, interviewer was behind a glass). The interviewer was really kind and chatty and the whole thing was quick. He asked me to take and oath and my fingerprints again. Then he asked me the following questions: How did you meet? Where did you meet? How long have you known each other? What is his job? What is your job? Have you ever been to the US? Have you ever had any problems crossing over the border into the US? Have you ever had any issues with the law in the US? and then some questions regarding my fiance's last tax return (he was just curious why he had an american tax return since he was working and living in Canada last fiscal year). He then handed me the 'welcome to the USA' paper and let me know that barring a record of any criminal activity in the US (a routine check they run that takes a day to process) I had been approved!
I left feeling extremely relieved and felt that compared to what I was imagining, it was extremely low-stress and very simple.
Like everyone else suggests, come prepared with all the forms and documents and you shouldn't have any issues. I went to the appointment with originals, copies, more proof of relationship and 70% of what I brought was not looked at or collected, but it did make me feel less anxious knowing that I came with anything that I might need to present in addition to what I was told I would need to present.
All told, it was a well organized consulate and everyone was kind, the whole thing was done by 9am.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
