Embassy Review : My wife's medical appointment was three days ago, and her interview at the Bogota embassy was yesterday.

For the medical, we went to Dr. Roa, and while I was worried because of the rumors I had heard, everything went fine for us. My wife recently gave birth, and had a lot of vaccines because of that, so the doctor only had her take two vaccines, the flu one and the triple anti-viral one. The appointment itself was pretty quick. I think accompanying her helped a lot, though I can't be sure.

As far as the interview, we overprepared. I brought everything the NVC asked for, lots of pictures and chats, and a whole lot of other documents, including copies of everything we had sent to the NVC. I brought stuff that I saw mentioned being asked for from these consulate reviews, like a copy of the joint sponsor's birth certificate. I had a good half-foot of documents, easy, and lugged it to the interview. We went to the first window, and the woman spoke to my wife as she organized the folder of documents. She was chatty and put my wife at ease. She asked some simple things, like whether my wife had been to the US, nothing really pressing.

Then we waited for about two and a half hours until her name was called. The interview was entirely with my wife. The questions I can remember:

What's your name?
What's your date of birth?
How long has your husband lived in Colombia?
How did you meet?
What was the wedding like? (My wife inserted info here about all the Americans that came to the wedding)
Where did the Americans who came to the wedding come from?
Do you have any children?
Have either of you ever been divorced?
Have you ever traveled to the US?
Where are you planning to live in the US? (My wife inserted info here about my job transfer)

Then I saw the magical domestic violence packet getting shown to her, and I knew that's when she was approved. The agent congratulated her and said the visa was approved. We were so excited I forgot to tell them that since we have now been married two years we should get an IR1 and not the CR1. Hopefully we can figure that out later.

Some thoughts:

- We were asked for no documents at the interview aside from the unopened medical results. Not even the documents the NVC told us to bring.
- I can't be sure, but I think being there and having the necessary docs very clearly on my person was helpful.
- All in all, if you read this forum, you are trying to cover all the bases, and that will help you a lot. I'd say Visa Journey members get approved at a rate higher than the general population.

Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
