Event Description

Embassy Review : I had my interview on July 10, 2015. Overall the experience was good.

My interview was at 7:40 and my fiance and I arrived around 7. We got a coffee from Starbucks across the street and joined the line (we were the 4th in line). We didn't bring our phones so I was not sure about the exact time, they didn't let us in until almost 8. Before getting in, the lady checked everyone's appointment letters and she gave me a ticket number for K1, I was number 1 (The line started to build up after 7, really quickly)

First, we went through the security. Security wasn't as rude as some people might put it, but they were definitely not "friendly". Since we had nothing with us, we were through pretty quickly.

Then we were let into this waiting area downstairs, we waited for awhile before someone let us up into the elevator. I think by the time we got to the 18th floor office, it was already 8:30.

I didn't have to get into the line again since I was K1 (for B1/2 you have to form a line again). I was called to window 1 to submit all my documents to the clerk. She was really friendly, she asked some general questions and recorded into the computer (e.g. if any of my contact info have changed, if my fiance was there with me, etc.), after collecting my ten-print, I was told to sit in the "immigration visa" area and wait to be called again for the actual interview.

I think we waited for at least 15 mins until being called again, this time it's window 7. We walked into this semi-open office-ish area (no door, couple of chairs by the entrance), my fiance followed too. We stood in front of the window and our interviewer looked really bored (not serious, but bored). He told my fiance to sit down by the door and interviewed me alone.

He asked me to read off this statement that he handed out, saying "to the best of my knowledge, everything I stated will be true". Then he asked me to go a left-hand print for him. He then went through routine questions; he didn't really ask any unexpected questions, pretty much usual stuff; how did you two meet? How long have you been together? What does your fiance do?Have you lived in any other countries other than Canada?

He talked so quiet that I had to ask him to repeat some questions (which made me more nervous)...but other than that, it went well. The actual interview took less than 5 mins and towards the end, he said "welcome to the U.S." and gave me a white instruction page and told me I should get my passport back in a week or two.

I don't know how he manage to remain looking bored and emotionless the entire time but all that matters is my visa is approved

Good Luck to you all!

Embassy Review : Our interview was scheduled at 2:30pm and we walked into the building around 1:50. Went through security and everything, no problem. And we checked in at the front desk (1:51) the girl stamped on my AOS interview notice..and was directed to the waiting area (another big room on the right hand side of the building..the thing that bothers me is that a LOT of people were on their phones, playing games and talking (aren't you suppose to leave your cellphones in your car?)

We waited for about half an hour and a Hispanic lady called my name and led us into the other side of the room - it looks like regular separated offices inside, quiet but nice.

She led us into her room and let us in first. After closing the door, she asked us to remain standing and took oath (truth and truth only) and let us sit. You can tell she's in a really good mood since she was humming while walking down the hallway with us.

She checked my name and DOB, asked where and how we met (Match.com) and asked a few questions (my husband was born in LA and then moved to Michigan when he was 2), she asked us if he was in LA by the time we met etc. and we talked a little bit about our story and then she sat back and asked my husband about his job - my husband is a surgical tech and he deals with a lot of the lap-band cases and she actually showed great interest and asked him a few questions (did it work? does it last? etc.)

It was pretty relax and I feel like it's more of a chat than interview, she then asked me if I have brought anything to show our marriage is bona fide and I took out all my documents (with different colors of tabs that I made) and started to hand over to her. She looked surprised (of how organized of documents are), and asked me what kind of job I do for a living (well, accountant, and after dealing with auditors for years, I kinda grow into the habit of labeling things and well-organize all the documents).

I brought and showed her a few insurance papers (life, health, dental, and auto) and before she had time to go through all of them, she spotted the album we bought with our puppy on the cover. She looked super glad all of a sudden and said "well, as long as I know you are a dog person, we are good here. NO more questions!"

LOL, then we started chatting about dogs and towards the end, she went through all the AOS yes/no questions and handed me over a piece of paper, stating that we need to co-file the ROC 90-day before our two-year anniversary.

Overall, it went pretty well...she walked us out and made a copy of certified marriage license (which we already submit along with the i485 package) and asked us to say hi to our puppy...

Harassment Level : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
