Consulate Review: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : August 19, 2015
Embassy Review : Overall experience wasn't too bad! Just had to wait a long time in a very hot environment. Apt was at 8:00; showed up at 7:30; place was already packed! Got in line for finger prints, then wait 2hrs to get to 1st window (#1-13)to submit required papers, then another 1.5hrs or so to get to the end window (#14-20) for the interview. Outa there by 11:00.

1st window, Viet lady asked for: (all orig+copies for fiance) Household Reg book, passport, birth certificate. For myself, only I-134 and 2014 tax transcript (the tax transcripts took a month to arrive home after you request).

2nd window: We went up to the window, both with big-ass smiles, so CO became very friendly, smiled a lot, as did the translator. While waiting, we were joking around with lots of funny stories so by the time we were called, we were still laughing; I think we were able to impose our good moods to the CO and her translator. CO saw us holding a manila folder labeled "Relationship Proof", and said, "Oh, I like that!". Here are the questions:

1. How and where did you meet?
2. When was the 1st time you met in person?
3. How many times did your fiance visit you?
(CO and translator were both cracking up when my fiance answered "10 times".)
4. Can you tell me how and when your fiance come to the US?
(My fiance couldn't remember the word for "vuot bien" so she said, "he took the boat"... hella hilarious, I was trying so hard to hold myself from cracking up... lol...
5. Where does he live now and what does he do?
6. Do you have any photos? (We shoved in a 2-in thick stack of photos, and CO said, "wow, great!")
7. Last question was addressed to me directly (rather than to my fiance). You've known each other for that long, why do you decide to marry now and not earlier?

My recommendations for future interviewees: Be in a very good mood when you approach. Know that you will pass and that your case is true. Be genuine and honest. Give the honest answers, even in broken English or in Viet. Both the CO and you will have a good time if you are honest and truthful.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
