Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 5, 2015
Embassy Review : I arrived to the Embassy at 9-20 (25 minutes prior to the time scheduled) and there were 5 people in line ahead of me. The weather was bad (wind+snow+rain). Luckily approximately in 1 min after my arrival the police officer took our passports and gave them back after checking something in the booth in another 2 minutes and we all went inside immediately. Everything took next to no time. Not a lot of people in any of the lines.
The actual time from my arrival to the immigrant visa waiting hall #5 till the interview took about 1,5 hours. During that time I gave the needed documents to the lady in window 23 and the rest of the time I was talking to people I have met the day before at the clinic for the medical. There were 3 of us ladies with K-1 and i was the first one called for the interview, I think cuz I arrived first.
When I entered the interview room there was a very nice rather young man. We started talking in Russian and he gave back my originals: divorce certificate and birth certificate. He also asked if I read the oath and asked to raise the right hand to swear and he took my left hand finger prints as my "signature" under that oath. Right after that he started talking about the pamphlet they asked me to read before the interview about domestic violence and abuse and my rights inside the USA if this happens to me.
After that he asked the name of my fiance and what language we use to communicate. I said English and he gladly said: well lets continue in English then.
He asked the following: describe how your relationships started and how they evolved, when did my fiance propose, when are we planning to get married, what I was doing while visiting on my tourist visas(mainly trying to understand if I violated and worked or studied), about my work(and he even started talking off topic about travel companies bankruptcies), about my previous marriage and how it ended and of course criminal history of my fiance (DUI).
Many times he was looking straight at me while typing in his computer, it was weird, but I was amazed with that skill.
The visa officer was very nice, friendly, extremely polite and the talk was very relaxed and with a lot of smiles. He never tried to be hostile or trying to accuse me or anything bad really, I felt like he was on my side and he wanted to hear the proof to the documents we submitted and that he already studied and he was willing to approve.
I had a huge heap of additional proof, but he never asked me about anything. Better to be over prepared than have something missing.
He said my visa was approved and that they will send it to me in a week or so.
I might be mistaken but it felt like the interview lasted 15-20 minutes mainly cuz it was like a conversation, we were talking and my answers were pretty detailed.
Great experience at this Embassy!

Event Description
Entry Date : 2015-04-25
Embassy Review : Had a pretty long wait in the line, approximately 1 hour. I put my envelope and a cd with x-ray on the counter right away. The officer was nice and asked me a few questions:
Are you immigrating today?
May I open your packet?(with a smile)
Who is the lucky guy?
What forms did you fill in?
Is your fiance a USC?
When are you planning to get married?
And he also commented that I have a GC number already.
He took my pic and fingerprints as a part of a usual submittion process, stamped the passport and circled the 1 time entry and wrote wit a pen AOS next to the stamp. He kept the contents of the packet and the CD and said I am good to go. I couldn't believe it was so fast so I asked do I need to go amywhere else or I can just get my luggage and go. He said yes, just pick up the luggage and you're good to go. I spent a total of 4-5 mins for the whole process.

Embassy Review : We arrived 15 minutes prior to scheduled interview time and were the only ones in the waiting area. There was a woman with 2 kids completing biometrics. Later some people arrived for their biometrics appointments and some other things they needed to do there. We waited for 45 minutes until a male officer finally saw off people and invited us in. He announced right away that he wants to be done with our interview fast, because he had a very long 2 hour interview right before us. He asked my husband if he speaks German which he doesn't, but both my husband and the immigration officer have very distinct German last names. He saw my thick folder with documents and a photo album and was wondering what is it I have there. I told him and he proceeded with the interview itself. The first questions what is form I-485, when I answered he said it is not entirely correct but this is the closest answer to the right one he has heard yet. Basically all standard questions: name, address, if I am married, all the questions about terrorists and clubs or societies, if I fulfilled the 2 year stay in home country after J-1, if I had ever been arrested. He asked my husband if he is married to me and if he is also married to anyone else in the entire world. He said he has all the documents and doesn't need anything from us, but he will still take a look at my thick folder just to comply with work protocol. He said keep it all cuz you will need it to apply for a 10 yar green card. I also offered him to take a look at my EAD/AP combo card and he said he doesn't need to, he knows I got it. At the end he put a big red stamp on the form I-485 that said APPROVED and gave us the paper that explained when and how to file for a 10 year green card. He said normally it takes 7-10 days to receive the green card, but if I don't get it in 30 days to give him a call. The interview took 20 minutes tops and we were out. He was very nice and joking a lot. Overall I am very satisfied with everything!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
