Consulate Review: Dominican Republic
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : June 19, 2015
Embassy Review : Our interview was scheduled for 7:00 a.m. on June 11, 2015. We arrived at about 6:00 a.m. and there were about 3 lines already. At first, there was some confusion as to which line to become a part of because people were blocking the signs which indicate which appointment time should be in which line. The lines kept increasing and more and more people kept arriving. We didn't have our cellular phones on us so we don't know exactly when we were let in but the first people let in regardless of lines were people with children. There were a lot of random people (not part of the consulate) outside offering services and telling us that we need this and that for the interview such as "you need 50x50 pictures" and "you will be denied for wearing your ring a certain way" .. my husband and I just laughed and continued to mind our business. Once inside, you empty the contents of your pockets and go through security, one at a time. DO NOT BRING YOUR CELLPHONES! I saw many people being sent outside because of this.

Once we exited security we entered another building to the left and were assigned number 174. The numbers on the monitor indicated which number went to which window. By the time they reached our number however, the machine stopped working, so an officer called our number out (remain alert). We were indicated to go to window 1, where a nice Dominican lady greeted us. She asked for our civil documents, the medical, passport, and also asked if we paid the fee's at NVC which we indicated that we didn't since our case was expedited. We were asked if we had any children, and if my husband had ever been out of the country to which he answered no. She told us to go to window 131 (I believe) to pay the fees and then return to window 1. We paid the $325 IV fee and that was all, in US dollars (although you do have the DOP option as well). Once we paid and gave the nice lady at window 1 the receipt, she gave my husband a pamphlet on US domestic violence and the options available to immigrants, in which she said with a smile "read this because they will ask you questions.. and good luck!" ... we went back to our seats.

We took out all the evidence we brought: 300+ pictures, Western Union receipts, love letters, Valentines day cards, and copies of my passport stamps. My husband tried to read the pamphlet as fast as he could and we were called about 5-10 minutes later for the interview.. to window 16. To our surprise, there were two CO's, one in front of the other, both Caucasian. The one in the front greeted us in Spanish with a warm "saludos!" to which we replied saludos as well. She swore us in as the CO in the back watched.

Questions to Me: (Petitioner) ENGLISH
How did you meet?
How long have you been together?
How long have you been married?

Questions to Husband: (Beneficiary) SPANISH
How did you meet?
How long have you been together?
Where does she work?
Where does she study?
Does she visit you a lot? How often? Special dates?
Where does she live?
Do you have any tattoos? (He showed her the one he has of my name, and we showed the one we both have together) she was really happy to see this
Did you finish school?
What are your plans in the US?
Do you have family in the US? Where do they live?
Will you continue to pursue an education? (I answered "he better!"and she laughed)

Questions to both of us: SPANISH
Are you related? How?
Did you have a big wedding ceremony?
Do you have any pictures? (We handed off the 300+ pictures) she looked through almost half with the CO that was behind her, both smiling and speaking but we couldn't hear.
Who is this in the picture? (referring to my son which hubby answered)
How old is he?
How many kids do you both have in total?
Wow a family of 5?! ( I answered yes and we want two more! - she laughed)
She asked a few more questions regarding the photos
FYI: We didn't have our photos in albums, but rather in good old fashioned ziplock bags, because it is much easier to slide the photos into the small window opening.

We believe the CO was training and the CO behind her was coaching her through the process.

She typed something in the PC while speaking to the other CO and said the magic words VISA APPROBADA! and gave us a white paper saying that it will be ready in about 14 days. We kissed and said thank you and have a great day. OVERALL GREAT EXPERIENCE! REALLY NICE CO'S!

Hope this review helps, and if anyone has any questions feel free to private message me! Good luck to all!

Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
