Embassy Review : We had a great experience at the Santo Domingo embassy. Appointment was on June 3rd at 7am. Didn't have to wait long to get inside. We got our number (64) and got called to window 15 20 minutes later. The lady asked for original marriage and birth certificates and asked if we had an updated police certificate (we did). We gave her the medical also. She opened it and gave us back a cd. she asked for my 2014 tax transcript and I asked her if she needed an updated AOS form (she didn't).

We then went back to our seats and waited like an hour to be called. Finally our number got called to window 13. We had a photo album, passport stamps, and phone call logs with photocopies of everything we sent to the NVC. When I saw the officer, I wanted to start jumping of joy because I knew she would be nice.

She asked (in Spanish) to my husband if he read the immigrant rights pamphlet. Then, she asked us to swear we would answer nothing but the truth.

She was a very friendly, late 30 African American woman. She conducted the whole interview in Spanish.

Officer: how did you meet? (and said any of us could answer) I looked at my husband and he answered. Then, I added the year we met.

Officer: Do you have kids?
Us: No.
Officer: seven years together and no kids?
Me: six years.
Officer: have you tried?
Us: No.
Officer (to my husband): what can you tell me about your wife?
Him: -Told her where I live, what I do and where I work.
Officer: What's the name of the university?
Him: -answered
Me: explained to her what the abbreviation meant
Officer: and where do your husband work?
Me: He is no longer working.
Officer: But where did he work?
Me: -I answered; told her where he went to college and that he had recently graduated.
Officer (to him): do you have brothers? (she started looking at her computer)
Him: -he answered.
Officer: in the States?
Him: one of them.
Officer: where does he live?
Him: -he thought about it because his brother moved and he didn't remember the state.
Me: -I answered the State he lives in now.
Officer: his wife took him?
Me: Yes.

Then another officer was passing by and she turned and started talking like for a minute. Then she turned to us and apologize.

Officer: do you have photos?
Me: Yes -gave her the album
Officer: wow, this is so well organized.
Me: Thanks, it is organized by trip.
officer (to him): how often does your wife travel?
him: -answered, but I guess she wanted a longer answer.
Me: -I answered.

Officer (to him): where will you be living?
Him: -gave her my address.
Officer: I don't know where that's at. USA is a big country.
Him:-he told her he will be living with me.
Officer: congratulations, your visa has been approved.

She gave us a white paper and told us we will receive an email when the passport was ready to be pick up in Santiago. I asked where I had to pay the mailing service and she said it was not necessary because it was included in the visa fee I paid online.

Before 12pm we were on our way home.
Passport arrived 7 days later in Santiago.

Event Description
Entry Date : 2015/06/15
Embassy Review : My husband and I were in line for 30 seconds, then it was our turn to see an officer. He saw my passport and stamped it. Then, he looked at my husband's passport and then, when he was about to open the yellow envelope, he asked for the Customs and border protection form, which we didn't have. He told us to go fill out one and go with a different officer. We did. About three minutes later, it was our turn again. I told the officer my passport was already stamped and explained the reason. He took a look at it and gave it back to me. Then he asked why we didn't go back to the same officer and I explained. He was OK with it. He took my husband's passport, opened the yellow enveloped, took photo and fingerprints. Then he asked me: who is that? I said: my husband. He smiled and started looking at our I-864 form like for 30 seconds; just staring at it. Then, he stamped the passport, asked us to wait for him, came back immediately and said we were good to go.
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
