Embassy Review : Preet and I were very nervous leading up to our interview. There is a 15 year age difference between us, with me being the elder, married previously and having children from my previous marriage. Knowing that these were three very big red flags, we were prepared to face a tough interview. However, our experience was quite to the contrary.

Preet and I have been dating for 3-1/2 years and have been engaged since June of 2014. Our Petition was approved back in Nov 2014, but rather than move forward at that time, Preet was offered a management job in Dubai. While we were eager to be together, we realized that him obtaining this experience would be invaluable and would enable him to find a job in the USA much quicker. With that in mind, we made the decision to postpone things for a little longer so that he could capitalize on this opportunity. I immediately wrote an email, followed by a written and notarized letter, explaining our situation. I asked the consulate to please extend the expiration date of our petition. The consultate responded back that when we were ready to take the interview, we could simply proceed in scheduling the appointment. To ensure that our case continued to remain open, I sent follow-up email every 6 months to inform the consulate that we were still together and still had every intention of getting married.

Finally, in July 2016, Preet completed his contract in Dubai and we quickly checked the status of our case on the US Consulate India's website. We were elated to find that our case was still active and the status was READY for the interview. We quickly scheduled our interview for the first available date (26th August). Knowing that our case had it's challenges, I made the decision to travel to Mumbai and attend the interview with Gurpreet. I reached-out to my local Congressman in the USA for support, and he wrote a letter to the consulate to ensure that 1) I would be allowed to attend the interview, and that 2) Preet and I would be given every opportunity to demonstrate that we have a bonafide relationship.

Prepared to face challenges, we brought with us a ton of evidence (e.g. picture albums, engagement announcements, chat/phone/email logs, Affidavits from family members and friends, proof of all our trips and vacations together {14 in total}). Not once during the interview were we asked to show any of our evidence. We were asked some very basic questions and after about a 15-20 minute interview, the CO said "Congratulations, your Visa has been Approved".

I'd like to tell everyone on here to realize that your case is individual and don't get stuck worrying too much up until your interview. The process is already stressful in and of itself and it only makes it worse when you worry that your going to face challenges that others have shared on this forum. If your relationship is real and true - and you BOTH love eachother equally, you should have no problem providing to the consulate the validity of the relationship.

Preet will be joining me in the USA on the 25th of September and we could not be happier.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
