Updated again on March 24th - interview will be on April 25th!
---
Interview went very well - we arrived 10 minutes prior, went through screening and signed in. No one else was in the waiting room so we went up to the window right away and they took Jose's fingerprints and took a picture of him to match the picture that they had of him. We waited for about 5 minutes for the guy to come back out and he led us back into an office. We both vowed to tell the truth and sat down. Then he basically went through the AOS application that we had submitted and asked us the same questions so that he could hear our answers verbally. At the end of the questioning he said that our application had been approved and that he would be putting a stamp in Jose's passport that would act like a green card until the real one came in the mail. We were done with the interview within 15 minutes of arriving. Jose is officially good to work, study and travel! :)

Consulate Review: Dominican Republic
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 29, 2015
Embassy Review : We arrived to the Embassy on time and got through the line fairly quickly. When we went inside we took a number and were told to sit and wait. We waited for a few hours before our number was called. The first time we went up the consul asked us a few questions and told my fiance that he needed to get his fingerprints taken, so we went to another window and did that. Then we went back and waited for another hour or so. When we were called again the consul asked us questions about how we met and some other basic questions. Then she asked if he had had any problems with the law and he said that he had. He was detained in 2011 for being at the site of a bar fight where an innocent bystander was killed by a stray bullet. He did punch a few people in the fight but he had nothing to do with the death. He was held in jail for 15 days for a hearing and was proven not guilty and released. He started to tell the consul about this incident and she decided that she could not grant the visa at that time. My fiance's visa was denied under Section 221(G) which means we needed to gather all information about the case and present it to the embassy. We also needed to provide an English translation of all of the documents. This took more than a month to get everything together. We had our interview on June 25th, 2015 and we turned in the additional documentation of August 12th. I am writing this on October 28th and the case is still under Administrative processing. I have been in contact with the Embassy in the past few weeks and they say it could be another 2 weeks before he can send his passport in, but we will see how long it will actually takes. The experience at the embassy was not horrible, but the outcome was very discouraging to say the least.
Rating : Moderate

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
