Consulate Review: London, United Kingdom
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description

Embassy Review : So here goes...

I arrived at about 7.45 for my 8am appointment, freaking out a little that I was late, after reading that no matter what time your interview, you should show up super early. There was two queues (that's a line, for you Americans), one big, one small. I, of course, picked the longer one cause I'm British and we love to queue but was promptly told I had to join the smaller one first.

After handing over my passport, appointment letter and DS 160 and getting into the longer queue, I just had the security bit to go through. The guys in there were super lovely and were asking me about my E-Cig (I've recently quit smoking) and wondering if they were any good to which I replied "yes"!

Once round the corner and up the stairs I was met by a friendly receptionist who checked my paper again and stuck some stickers on my appointment letter and sent me into the waiting room. I was I915 and at that point the I numbers were at about 903 so I had a bit of a wait. I decided to get some coffee and do my sudoku. BIG MISTAKE!!! The coffee there was the worst I have ever tasted in my entire life. even worse than plane coffee. YUCK!

Anyway, after a quick puff outside on my E-Cig, I came back in and was seen pretty soon by a lovely guy, probably mid 30's, blonde hair and a lovely smile. He asked me if I was engaged and then congratulated me when I showed him my ring

He asked me for my police check, birth certificate, proof of visa payment, whether or not I had lived anywhere else for longer than a year and then asked for the affidavit of support. He took one look at it and then looked back at me a little worried. It was under the threshold which was always my main worry. I told him that I had property in the UK and that I gained rent from it ever month. I gave him a copy of the deeds of the house and my rental agreement and he said that should be fine. He gave me my chest X-ray and we did the finger print bits and joked about how bad I looked in the pictures I had to take at 6am that morning.

Generally the whole first interview bit was very fun and we had lots of laughs and nothing felt like a chore or in any way scary. More like meeting someone for the first time and just having a general chat with them while they looked into your entire history in paper form.

He then asked me to take a seat and wait for my number to be called again. Back to my sudoku...

About 5-10 mins later I was called to a window round the corner and met another lovely guy who, after putting me under oath and taking more finger prints (?) asked me about how I met my other half and how we managed to maintain our relationship seeing as we are so far apart. I explained all the visits back and forth and the constant chatting online. He seemed happy with that. We had a very brief chat, I can't honestly remember what was discussed cause it was all so quick. The next thing I know he was saying "your visa has been approved", to which I screeched something incomprehensible and he gave me a big smile and explained that my passport will be returned to me very soon and to enjoy my life in America.

I promptly ran outside to do a little dance, a little more screeching and then the ever so fun phone call to my future hubby;
"Honey, do you want the good news or the bad news?"
"Oh no, what's up?"
"Bad news is I have to wait 3 bloody hours until my train. Good news is we're totally getting married in 25 days!!!!!" (not sure he understood that last bit, due to my screaming, but he got the general idea.)

I was in there for no more than 2 hours. Couldn't have been easier. Though that constant "bing" "bing" "bing" of the numbers was driving me a little mad...

I'm in such a good mood right now!!!! If anyone is worried, really don't be. As long as you have everything you need with you, you will fly through.

Just FYI, here's a list of things I bought with me, that they didn't ask me for;
Pay Stubs from Bobby's work
Employers letters
Bobby's bank statement
My bank statements
2011 & 2012 tax returns
photo copies of anything at all

Good luck y'all!!!

Next thing, HEN NIGHT!!!!! (with flight to LA the next morning!!!)

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
