Comments : POE was smooth at Alexandria Bay, NY & the 1000 islands bridge. Took about an hour total from the time I pulled up to the primary booth. I imported my car and had the K-1/i-94 processed. They verified my fiancee's address and phone number and that was about it.

For importing a vehicle make sure you have letters from the manufacturer proving that there are no outstanding recalls, that the vehicle meets EPA/DOT standards and proof that you own the vehicle.

Good luck!

Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : January 20, 2015
Embassy Review : My fiance and I stayed at the Delta Montreal as it is across the street from Medisys where I had to pick up my medical results the morning of the interview (we also tend to love Delta hotels). It's about a 7-8 minute walk from the consulate but is a bit more on the expensive side if you want to budget your trip for the interview.

I left the hotel at 6:50AM on January 15th to get my results from Medisys which opens at 7:00AM. To avoid hassle with the consulate security I only brought my documents, one credit card, a 20 dollar bill, my health card and my passport.

I gave my name at Medisys reception and they handed me several envelopes of results and instructed me not to open them. I placed them in one of my document folders and headed towards the consulate. I imagine I arrived at the consulate at about 7:15 to find another VJ member waiting at the doors. For quite some time it was only us waiting but the line develops very quickly and though it was freezing I think it was worth getting there early. The security guard opened the doors and started letting people in to the small lobby/foyer area around 7:30AM. A lady took a quick look at my loomis confirmation page and my passport and instructed me to proceed to the door into the security check. Security is similar to an airport (empty pockets, belt, watch into a bin, place jacket/scarf on the scanner belt and go through metal detectors). I had no issues, quick and painless security check.

I was then directed downstairs to the elevator waiting area. There were 4-5 chairs lined up directly to the right of the elevator door. The first two of us took the nearest of those 2 seats. A security guard made his way down what felt about 15-20 minutes later and called the elevator instructing us to go to the 19th floor. The fellow VJ'er and I were able to enter first and be the back-left most people in the elevator allowing us to be the first up to the receptionists on the 19th floor. She was #1, I was #2.

The first receptionists asked to see the appointment confirmation page and my passport. I handed her the confirmation printout from when I booked the appointment. You will be given a number and a piece of paper instructing you which documents to have ready when you are called:

1) Appointment letter (Appointment confirmation page was what they wanted, I had Packet 3/4 just in case)
2) I-134 and Supporting evidence
3) Passport
4) Medical Results

I had my folders fairly organized so I didn't do much shuffling while I waited. Once I was called up to the first window the lady was patient and friendly and had me take out the documents mentioned above as well as:

1) Police certificate
2) My birth certificate and a copy
3) Photocopy of my passport bio page
4) Letter of intent from my fiance (I had written one as well but she didnt want it)

She then took my finger prints and handed me another copy of the domestic abuse information sheet. She instructed me to have a seat and wait to be called again for the interview.

About 20 minutes later I was called up to one of the interview windows (a bit more secluded than the document submission windows). There are coat hooks that you can hang your things on which was nice as I preferred to look presentable rather than bundled up! The officer had me verbally swear an oath that all information in my application and during the interview was truthful and accurate, then took an additional set of finger prints. He flipped through the folder of documents for a few minutes then asked the following questions:

1) How did you meet?
2) When did you first meet in person?
3) Since first meeting, how often do you see each other?
4) Who does most of the travelling?
5) Do you still play the same video game together?
6) Where do you plan to get married?

He then slipped the Welcome to the USA letter under the window and told me that he was approving the visa. He gave me some information about next steps and explained that the POE would have more information about Adjustment of Status.

Overall it was a very painless experience. I had 3 folders prepared and only touched one of them. The proof of relationship wasn't asked for but I would highly recommend having it prepared as I imagine there is some variance in cases.

As far as tips go: be organized, have originals and copies of everything you think you might need. Be honest and be calm.

Also for anyone in a similar situation, my fiance is a full time student with very little income. We successfully used her mother as a co-sponsor and submitted the following evidence for her:

1) bank letter
2) employment letter and earning summary
3) IRS Transcripts

I had more evidence but the lady told me she had enough at that point. I would still over prepare but I just wanted to let people know that it can be done!

Also congrats to the other 2 VJ folks that were there. It was nice to chat with you both.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
