Consulate Review: Vancouver, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 10, 2015
Embassy Review : Had very good experience with the Vancouver Consulate.

First Vancouver Medical: I saw Dr. Cheema in Surrey and it is very easy to get to by transit, so if you are coming without a car, don't worry about that, just google map directions. Buses go right by his office every 10-15 min on weekdays.

Medical was simple and straight forward. Mostly long medical history questions and then basic stats (height, weight, eye test, hearing etc).

They then will send you to a lab for xray and bloodwork. The lab is a 25 min walk / 5 min bus down the road.

Also discovered that if you call the Canada contact number on Dr. Cheema;s site, they answer that phone... They also answer emails though if you have questions.

bring you health care card, they may ask for it!

Consulate - Super easy to find too. Right by Burrard train station. Once I arrived, I had to wait outside for a bit until they were ready for my appointment time. They then do security checks (think like at the airport). Very easy if you don't bring things like your phone and electronics.

Once inside, I was told to wait for someone to take me upstairs. Then after 15 min, I was escorted to an elevator and taken to the 20th floor.

Next, I was told to go to a window and turn the light switch on. An employee came and took my file and then I sat and waited again. They will call you back up and go through your papers and make sure you have what they need (basically everything on your packet 3 checklist).

Then I went back to waiting for my number.. once called, I went to a different window and the employee went through my information and asked the following questions:
- Where did we meet
- When did we get engaged
- Was I planning to move to the US
- How often I visited
- What my fiance does for a living
- Where do his parents live

From here, he said I was approved and I left. In total, it took about 2 hours for the interview. 95% waiting. This was on what seemed like a slow day!

There is a photo booth at the consulate if you forget to bring photos, but I would just plan to have enough!

Suggestion for those traveling from outside Van. I stayed close to the skytrain and used public transit and it was much easier than dealing with traffic and parking! If you do drive, be careful picking up your medical results as you will be driving in rush hour!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.

** Not all cases are transfered
