I came very early, before 6:00 am, although my interview was 7:30 am. They started the services at 7:00 am. They classified the people in two lines, tourist and residents visas. For resident visas it doesn't matter the hour of your interview, so I was happy because I was second in line. Then they allowed us to go inside. The girls of the staff told us that we could go directly for any door, no problems or lines. A staff guy inside registered us and brought us for the chairs in front of interview windows for immigrant visas. I was second with the turn #7 after 15 minutes or less. In the window was a Colombian lady, she said good morning, anded ask my complete name. Then she asked for my passport and the two passport size photos. Then, the questions:
- Who is asking for you in the USA? (like who is sponsoring me)
- Are you legally married?
- Where did you get married?
- Do you live in USA?
- How long was your longest visit to the USA? (I asked if I could refer to a document to answer that question since I had listed all the dates of visits, she said yes of course).
Then she said, ok you can sit and wait for the consul to call you in the front chairs. After that we had to wait for 20 or 30 minutes until the second interview. Then a gringa girl called my name to go to window 2. The woman at the window said (in Spanish), "Good morning, what is your complete name?" and was young and very friendly so that made me feel more relaxed. More questions:
- Who is asking for you in the USA?
- When did you get married?
- How did you meet?
- Where will you each live (you and your wife)?
- When was the last time your spouse was in Colombia?
- What is your wife doing now?
- How much time was your longest visit in the USA?
Then...OK, you are approved! She gave me the domestic violence paper and a document with information about payments and how to arrange for pick up of passport (once the visa is put in it).
They didn't ever even ask for the original marriage certificate, birth certificate, police certificate, updated financial documents....nothing. So that was surprising. Anyway....VICTORY! |
