Consulate Review: Islamabad, Pakistan
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : August 24, 2015
Embassy Review : I went to the rundown Diplomatic Shuttle Service (DSS) @ about 6:30 am since you are not allowed to drive your own car to the embassy without prior authorization, getting which is a hectic and often times useless process, therefore, I would recommend to not bother with that. The good thing about DSS though is if you forget to take pictures or photocopies etc. there are shops there at the DSS building right next to the cafeteria that provide these services.

The DSS bus took me to the embassy at about 7:00 am. Charged me Rs 200. After going through a bunch of security checks, pat downs and radioactive scanners I was finally let into the Consular Section of the US Embassy.

The Process:
After entering the embassy I got a "token number" from the reception. These numbers are what flash consistently on the screens and along the respective booths to tell you which booth you have to go to.

It flashes TWICE. Once for you to go to a booth for bio metrics and the last time for your interview.

Questions asked:

Where did you meet?
What do your parents think about your marriage?
Have you ever been outside Pakistan?
Have you ever been to the US before?
What do you do here for a living?
Does your wife come to meet you in Pakistan?
When was the first time she came to Pakistan?

As I answered each question the CO kept smiling in acknowledgement and kept typing and finally said your visa is approved, you will get your passport in 14 days from American Express Courier Service.

My Opinion about Embassy Experience:
All the lower level staff like the receptionists(excluding one man who was rather charming) and SPECIALLY the hired security guards (from SGS company) were downright rude, crude and ill mannered.

The lower level staff (everyone outside the glass) is what I encountered at first and for a moment I doubted myself on entering the right building.

Now, to my pleasant surprise, INSIDE the glass was a different story. TWO of the members of staff that I encountered from the inside were 1) a brown man for my bio metrics and 2) a white lady for my interview. Both me very good and very respectful.
Rating : Very Poor

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
