Comments : I received my GC while on a work trip in Europe. I thought this might cause some issues entering the US but the Immigration Officers were very understanding. I showed them my EAD/AP card, copies of my marriage certificate, GC, Welcome Letter and I was able to enter the US without any hassle.

Embassy Review : Hello everybody,

here comes our experience.

We arrived about 15 minutes earlier and it took about 30 minutes until they called our names. The waiting room was fairly busy so I was very glad it didn't take longer than that. We had our attorney with us who has been walking us through the entire process so far. He was present but didn't get involved in any way other than trying to throw a joke or two to lighten up the mood.. Fairly successfully I may add

The entire interview took about 20 minutes and it was fairly friendly and polite. Our IO was a male and most of the questions were addressed to my husband who is a US citizen.

Not many personal questions were asked to my surprise. Mostly they were related to our application like name, address, etc.. Very straight forward.

I met my husband in Chicago in July 2011 and we traveled back and forth on monthly basis until I entered USA on B1/B2 visa last December '12. I had come to spend Christmas with my back then fiance and due to issues with my work, increasing stress level and decreasing health we decided over the New Year's Eve that I simply stay. Naturally I expected some questions about that but interestingly enough, the IO didn't seem to care. But he did ask about my last employer and when I stopped working with them. To which I answered in January once I knew I wouldn't be going back.

He asked us one somewhat bizarre question and that was whether I have ever been pregnant with my current husband - our answer was NO.

I read and researched a lot so I came over-prepared. I put together a scrap book of photos with friends, wedding and our trips. I also printed out 2 years of all travel itinerary, hotel bookings, cooking classes, food tasting and art class we did together. I brought all congrats cards we have received for birthdays, engagement, wedding, Easter... However our IO never asked for any it. He only went through bunch of photographs I didn't use for the scrap book and thought might get handy. He took few pictures of us together and wedding ones with family members as evidence and returned the rest.

We had all the basic documents and copies that are required:
Proof of:
- Joint bank accounts
- Phone provider telephone bill with our both names
- Proof of me being on my husband's health and car insurance
- Copy of my last year's application to become a resident in the condominium where we live.
(here IO asked my husband if we own. Answer YES)
- My husband's employment letter (He asked more about his work. So they had a little chat about that.)
- pay stubs
- Some mail coming to our both names and some of my personal name coming to our address

IO had a look at our passports and IDs. Wrote down the details and asked us to sign some form asking for our telephone number and threw in one tricky question. Asked my husband to write down my phone number. Of course he didn't know it! Even though I specifically asked him to memorize it the day earlier as I heard they might do that We all laughed about it and it didn't seem to be a big deal.

After that we had a quick chat about how we met. My husband answered that. Two years ago I came for a work trip to Chicago and basically our mutual friend introduced us during a lunch date. The IO seemed to be or at least pretended to be interested and we chatted about that a little. And that was it.

After that it was all over and he told us that everything seems ok and we should hear from them in about a week and he doesn't see any issue at this point.. he said that twice so we left at ease and now I am checking our application status online every 15 minutes

Fingers crossed we get approved soon! Good luck to you all!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
