Consulate Review: Manila, Philippines
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 4, 2014
Embassy Review : I (petitioner) attended the interview with my wife. Our appointment was scheduled for 6:15 and we arrived there at 5. There were people there to show us where to line up at. The line was a lot longer than I had thought it would be at the time. Once it opened up though the line moved pretty swiftly. We got inside and got our number and sat down and started waiting for our number to flash on the screen. It didn't take too long for our number to flash for us to go up so that my wife could give her finger prints.

We sat back down again after that and waited for what seemed like forever! I was starting to get worried they had forgotten about us. We had been listening to a lady interviewing others near where we sat and were hoping not to be called up to her window every time she opened up, she sounded pretty strict and harsh. We eventually got called to the window to answer questions by the Filipino officer though and she was pretty friendly. She asked the following:

To my wife, the beneficiary:
1)How did you meet?
2)When did you meet? When did you first meet in person? (We originally met on a game)
3)When did you get married?
4)Have you been to the US before?
5)What visa were you on previously? When and when did you leave?(She asked some more questions regarding this since my wife's most recent visit had been on a K-1 on which she overstayed and married me. She remained friendly though and accepted the brief explanations and documents provided for this.)
6)Do you have pictures of the wedding? Can I see? (Handed her the pictures and she looked through them and asked who various people were before giving them back and telling us to show them to the American officer later.)
7)What is the joint-sponsor's relation to the petitioner?
8)She may have asked if either of us had been married before or had kids, I don't really remember that well.

To me,the petitioner:
1)Has your father (joint sponsor) filed his taxes for this year? (He hadn't)
2)When did you arrive? (Kind of stumbled on this one because I arrived late Saturday night but wasn't that aware of the time/date after flying over, but it didn't matter)
3)Is this your first visit?

That went pretty smooth but my wife was pretty nervous since we had been expecting extra scrutiny because of her previous visa, but it went well. She told us to have a seat and wait to be interviewed by the American officer. Before we walked away I asked for the time and she told me it was 9:04. Shortly after sitting down we were called back up for our next interview. The American officer was female as well and looked to be young. She was also very nice and friendly and was always smiling so that was a plus! She asked the following:

1) Is this the petitioner with you?
2) So have you been divorced before? (She was looking at the document that we gave to the lady previously about my wife's past K-1.) No? Well if this isn't a divorce paper then it doesn't concern me, moving on.
3) When and how did you two meet?
4) When did you meet in person?
5) When did you get married?
6) Who is (name of joint sponsor)and do you live in the same house?
"That's it, that's all I need, please have a seat and wait to be called again."

This process took 3-5 minutes total and was much easier than the previous person. We asked if we were approved and she said that she didn't know the results yet so she couldn't say, but she got all she needed from us and to wait to be called again. This kind of worried us since we had read that you could ask this after it was over and they would tell you, but I still felt pretty good about it. Our number was called to another window for the results and after the man took a few minutes looking at everything he said, "Okay, you can go home now... and wait for you visa to arrive." Scared the crap out of me hearing the first part of that! So we dropped off the mailing information and were out of there around 10:15 with smiles on our faces!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
