Event Description

Embassy Review : Our interview actually took place in the Oakland Park Field Office. We got an appointment was for Saturday June 29, 2013 at 7:55am. We arrived at 7:50am. I was so nervous that I couldnt sleep the night before. We thouht a Saturday interview was strange but sure enough there were about 5 cars in the parking lot. We parked close to the building and left our cellphones in the car.

We went through airport style security and were ushered in after presenting our letter to a gentleman at the door into a large waiting area on the left, there were several families waiting with kids, I thought maybe we should have brought our little one but when they started to run around and squeal, I thought naw we made the right decision. Several IO's came through the door calling the names of couples who had arrived before us. We waited for about 15 minutes but it felt like 15hrs. Finally a tall middle aged caucasian(not sure this matters) gentleman came to the door and called my name Yay! But just our luck my husband had run back to the car... we had left our banking information...(darnit so much for being prepared). I informed the IO my hunny would be right back and he said he"d come back in 5 minutes and dissappeared behind the door again. Images of an instant denial because we werent ready danced in my head

Eventually my husband came back and we waited about 10 minutes and our IO reappeared and showed us to his office he wasnt pleasant but leaned heavily on the serious side... here we go

He said before you sit down,I have to swear you in, we held up our right hand and took the oath and sat down. He asked forour id's and He then turned to my husband and said lets start with the application you sent in "for her" He flipped through the file confirming information we already sent in, then he said "I see you were both married before and you filed for your ex wife, (he looks up from the papers and looks at my husband square in the eye) "Are you in the business of immigration marriages?" I almost toppled out of my chair when my hunny looked back at him smiling "No, I just like exotic women" You gotta love it when ur husband describes you as being exotic (must remember to show my gratitude for tht one ltr wink wink) The IO then made an odd comment about his marraige ending after 25yrs and sometimes they dont last, To which I replied we are in this for the long haul as we have great examples in our parents who are both still married.

But really guys, that literally was the only question. No how you met, who propposed blah blah blah. A little bit more paper flipping and then he says" because youve been married for less than 2 yrs green card you will be getting is called a conditional...Man thats all I needed to hear! I started doing the gangham style dance in my head... now back to reality "...yes sir I do understand we will have to apply jointly to remove conditions within the 90 days"

Then he requests to see originals of all copies sent in, if there is any additional joint documents, which we explained we didnt have much but presented joint utility bills our joint bank account info tht my husband had gone to the car for, papers from each of our jobs showing each other as emergency contacts etc. (thanks vj for giving us these ideas)He said thats good thank you. Then I brought out the "We also brought some pictures" line he looked through our album and said ok. Next he asks me for my 1-94 and looked at my passport and said youve done a lot of travelling and I told him yes for business and also for leisure. He then asked me the yes no questions. I kinda giggled when he asked if I wanted to over throw the government...nerves Iguess, but he shot me a stern look and I straightened up immediately. All the while through the interview he clicks away athis computer. Then he says you should be receiving a letter in the mail and ur card should arrive in 2 weeks.

And that was it. I thought it strange he talked about removing conditions before asking for the originals etc. Always thought that wd come at the very end but oh well... Actual Interview went for about 15 minutes and then we thanked him left the building stepped outside into our wonderful future...
Harassment Level : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
