POE Review: CDN-USA Border
Event Description
Entry Date : 2009-06-23
Embassy Review : Crossed in Sweetgrass/Coutts (Montana/Alberta)

About 3 hours in total
Arrived 5:30pm

Drove a 26 footer Uhual with car hauler into a passenger lane at the crossing. Explained to the custom officer that I would like to activate my PR (IR1) visa and gave him the infamous brown envelope. He asked me the usual questions (tobacco, firearms, etc) which I promptly said none. Told me to pull into the parking lot and go inside the building for secondary processing.

There was only three people in front of me but had to wait a couple of hours before it was my turn. Nobody went ahead of me.

Then I caught a trainer and three rookies agents on their training day, learning how to process my IR1 visa with i-601 approved letter. Had to give the rookies an overview on how I got the ban in the first place, the process I had to go through, etc. FYI: I had unlawful presence over 180 days on an expired TN visa but less than one year. Took my fingerprints. Waited for another 15 minutes.

Called me back with a stamped passport and said I'm all set. They never asked for my list of inventory nor asked me about my car (it was never imported into Canada.

Received GC in 3 weeks.
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
