Consulate Review: Jamaica

Event Description

Embassy Review : So my interview was 8 am but I reached there about 7:30. I couldn't believe the number of people there looking visitors visa but I the out door agents were very quick and efficient with checking on the documents to ensure completion. In no time I was through security and unto the compound for another lineup to enter the main building. At this time a security personnel came as asked that everyone applying for an immigrant visa or are being filed for should come to the front of the line. In no time my appointment letter was checked and given a number. We were asked to sit on the right side of the embassy which is an areas specifically arranged for immigrant visas and we were seated unlike the other side applying for visitor visas. They called our numbers based on the time of your interviews. There were about 30 people waiting to be interviewed who shared similar interview times with me. They called my number like minutes to 9 to do the finger prints and to submit the civil docs and the woman asked if its my first marriage and if it's also my petitioner's first. Then she said I could have a seat and the interviewing officer would call me. There were just two officers interviewing for immigrant visas. Then at about 10:10 my name was called. I did the swearing. She asked:
What does your wife do for a living?
Where did you meet?
When did you last see her?
Kids? Ages?
Do you have any criminal record in Jamaica or Canada ?
Where did you get married?
Then she said 'your visa is approved. You will get your passport back in two weeks'

The entire thing took about 2 hours 45 mins. Our case was expedited. But the interviews were good. There was no shouting by any officer. They were very courteous. It was nothing like I thought I'd encounter. Plus I went with stacks of documents to show bonafides of relationship which they didn't even ask for. She said she has everything she needed. Plus when I looked at the file my wife sent to them I don't see why they'd ask for anything else.
To everyone waiting just be prepared. Don't be nervous and answer the questions as truthfully as possible. I see people with records getting approved. Just be prepared to do some explaining if you have a case that warrants questioning.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
