Review Topic: K1 Visa

The interview itself took about 30 seconds, and the overall visit was about an hour and a half from start to finish. Everyone was very friendly and helpful throughout the entire process! I spent a majority of the time waiting to be called up. You initially have to go through a scanner, similar to what happens at TSA in the airports. For those of you WITH a co-sponsor:

My fiancée's dad was our co-sponsor due to the income requirement. My fiancée had still given me an I-134 of her own, just to be safe incase they wanted to see hers- even though nearly *everyone* has sworn they would not care about hers. The officer I had asked to see hers despite having her father's, which had more than enough income to prove I would not become a public charge in the U.S. I'm really thankful she decided to write one out just incase! Maybe it wouldn't have been a problem if she hadn't, but I'm glad that I had it on hand so when he asked me for it, I was able to give it to him. So as a heads up, including one even if you don't meet the income requirement and have a co-sponsor, is the safe way to go because you NEVER know!

When it came time for the actual interview, I got a new officer who began by saying congratulations on the engagement! She then asked a couple questions; the first was how we met, and the second was how many times we had been together. Very, very easy! After that she said congratulations, you've got the visa! They took all the originals of the documents that I brought along with my passport for the visa, even though I had photocopies with me. I mentioned this to them because I wanted to hold onto the originals and give them the photocopies, but they said they would not accept anything but the originals so definitely make sure you have them on hand.

The visa arrived about a week later via courier mail. The package that the visa comes in is clearly labeled DO NOT OPEN! Unless you are really in a rush to open the package and dig through everything without looking, it is extremely difficult to open up the inner package that you are supposed to hand to a border agent at P.O.E. (and keep closed for them to open).

Overall, it was a great experience and I did not have any problems! Was very nervous for what was arguably the easiest part of this process
