Review Topic: K1 Visa

The appointment was at 7:00am. We arrived at around 5:30am, yes I went even knowing I couldn't enter. There were three lines forming in front of the embassy. The embassy is directly on the street so it begins to get "busy" as the morning goes on. There a couple of vendors in front selling food and drink. Also there are people trying to "assist" you with last minute details you may have forgotten, ie.. stapling a document, making copies etc. I would avoid allowing them to help with, go prepared.

Security appeared, a "check-in" table was being setup at around 6:30. We were the third in the first line. At around 6:45am consulate workers randomly selected people to check-in, my fiance was one of those. She was fifth in line to enter the embassy.

At 7:00am people were allowed to enter. The remainder of the review is based on what my fiance stated happened once inside.

She was called to a window and spoke to a female, that was dressed professionally but not in uniform. The female asked her for various items, the Visa application, medical info, all of the birth information and police records and a photo. The lady asked my fiance a handful of questions. What type of visa? Who petitioned for her? How we met? If I had ever been divorced in the past and how many times? How many times I had visited? The biggest surprise was she asked my phone number. My fiance answered ALL of the questions and was asked to sit down. My fiance was instructed on completing digital fingerprints. The lady was always serious, not mean, but very businesslike. My fiance was never asked for any additional evidence, but we were prepared.

She was then called up a 2nd time to a male consulate officer in uniform. My fiance said he was really soft and kind and made her feel at ease. The male officer asked her how we communicate, ie. Whatsapp etc.? If I speak Creole,
I don't? Who petitioned for her? How we know each other? If I had visited before? Where she will live when she arrives? The officer told her congratulations you will receive the visa. She was given almost all of the evidence of having a relationship from the initial petition to take with her. She was also given a pamphlet, in French, on what to expect, what to do if you have issues etc.. and also a congratulations sheet explaining setting up an account on USTRAVELDOCS to receive visa updates, French and English.

She was finished by 8:15am. All of the questions were more as questions in conversation not interrogation.
