Review Topic: K1 Visa

First of "DO NOT BRING YOUR PHONE"

It's clearly stated to not bring your phone but again on this day there were several people that got sent to the back of the line because they brought phones.

Apparently if the number is not to great, they will let you in after the rest of the people, but if they run out of room to store them I guess they sent you home.

Change from last reviews:
Show up on time and wait in line. They no longer pick out the immigrant visa's and it's first come first serve.

Staff is extremely nice and helpful.

Immigrant visa's open the door (yes it is heavy) and go to the room on your right. (window 5)

ones it was my turn the aid wanted to have:
Passport
Birth certificate + copy
Police certificate (VOG) + Copy
I-134 (original wet signature!!)
3 years worth of tax returns

And wait to be called to window 6
Got sworn in.
I was than asked about a potential overstay I had indicated on my DS-160. I explained and she said it was not an overstay and even if it was it was before April 1997, so no issue. But pointed out it was smart of me to have mentioned it on the initial form.

Questions where:
who petitioned for you (full name)
where do you intend to live (city was enough)
When did you first meet (1996 so that started a few questions but nothing weird or strange.
Where does your fiance work, what does she do and since when has she worked there.
Does either of us have kids? (I don't but my fiance does)
Kids name and age.
Than the by now famous "you are approved"

That's it.

Few things I noticed:

They like tax return even though the I-134 doesn't ask for them. Having said that the person in front of me got approved on a copy of the I-134 and no supporting evidence.

The more organized and prepared you are, the quicker the interview goes. I had all my documents in order and did not have to hand in anything else. Persons in front of me who where missing items where asked for additional information. And asked a lot more questions.

Even though the aid didn't say so, don't use staples. They have to pull everything apart and I'm sure his fingers will be thankful.

Passport photo's are, like cellphones, one giant mystery for the dutch. They give you a template on several occasions. They do not want European style. Why people keep on bringing them is beyond me. This is my 5th trip to the consulate since 1992 and on every one of them I have seen people being turned around to get new pictures.
If they have time they will let you go get them on the spot and return for the rest of the application.

Again I'm amazed at how friendly and professional the staff is. The interview is more of an conversation than an interview. And if you have any questions they are more than happy to answer them.

Now if we only figure out what "no electronics" and "US-style passport photo" means I'm sure they will be happy about us to.
