My experience at Montreal is exactly the same as all the other detailed reviews posted on this site. So I want to thank everyone who posted theirs. I left my backpack at the hotel front desk, brought only my documents and a paperback book to pass the time. Overall I spent just shy of 2 hours at the Montreal office, 45 minutes waiting, 10 minutes document check and fingerprinting, 60 minutes waiting, 5 minutes interview.

Unfortunately after my largely painless document check and interview, they told me to fill out a DS 5535 for additional travel information and family information. So I have no idea when I could actually move to the USA or if I'll even be approved at all at this stage.

Just FYI, I have not visited any "suspicious" countries, I've lived in Canada for 30 years straight, I didn't work for any sensitive info or government agencies. I was born in China, not sure if that's what triggered the additional check.

We had a good experience in Montreal. The building was not as easy to find as we thought it would be, so we were glad that we located it the day before our interview. There was no sign on the outside of the building. We found it only by the street number by the door.

We lined up early outside of the building on the morning of our appointment. Eventually, we were called inside based on our interview times. After passing through security, the two of us were allowed up the elevator whenever two other people came out. We arrived in a waiting room filled with 30 or 40 people. The whole process took several hours. I was glad that I had eaten breakfast and had coffee before our 8:15 appointment! There were restrooms and a water fountain available.

After much waiting, we were called up to a window at a counter. A gentleman reviewed some of our documents, address, etc. Then we sat back down to wait some more. Eventually, we were called to another window with a cou... read complete review

We were approved on the spot and issued same day. I understand there are 221g and DS-5535 that go out of montreal, but there's a response bias here. Everyone that gets a DS-5535 will come on here and talk about their experience and people who get an approval are far less likely to post their experience here. Im here, as one who was very anxious about AP, to tell you that approvals happen more often than AP and it's far less likely to get an AP than it appears on these forums. Enjoy

Amy attended her consulate interview on January 23, 2024. Her first interviewer did not speak english (or even french). She requested a second interviewer due to the language barrier and importance of clear communication during the interview. The second interviewer requested an original of a document that she didn’t have with her. The Consular Officer provided a form on how to provide her passport and the original document to the consulate. The interviewer stated that once those documents were received, her visa would be approved. She submitted the documents within 3 days. We heard nothing until February 14, 2024 when Amy received an email from the consulate requesting her to go online and fill out an addiitonal form. We now know this is the dreaded DS-5535. So now we wait (again).

December 13, 2023 Interview. Everything went well until the very end when a 221g was given. No extra paperwork was needed and all we were told was wait until you are contacted to send in your passport. Contacted to send in passport on January 17th. Passport received in Montreal in January 25th. Nothing since.
