  1. Thank you for all your help missads. If I had not found your thread, I may never have known this was possible. Anyway, my 75 yr old father in law arrived here in Dallas,TX on May 6, 2018 from the Philippines on a IR5 visa. Last week I successfully signed him up for a silver plan thru the healthcare.gov website. He qualified for a $975 ptc, so his monthly premium is $11.91. Only 2 silver plans were available, Molina and Ambetter, and when I googled reviews for them they were bad for both, but I figured some coverage is better than no coverage. Ambetter would have been $143 a month after the ptc, so I figured since the reviews were bad for both, I chose the cheaper one, which was Molina. My question is that he is required to submit documentation of his income by Sept 1. His income is 0. Since he will not be filing a tax return until January, and he does not work, what can I use to show that his income is 0. Somewhere in your thread I think you mentioned doing an affidavit. Is that my only option as far as you know? Does anyone have experience with proving income in this situation?
  2. I was reading this thread and found it very helpful, and then realized the original post was made in 2011. I don't know if anyone is still following this thread, but here is my question: I noticed a few of you are from the Philippines. My father-in-law has an IR5 and will be coming from the Philippines to the U.S. in a couple months. Does he need to attend the Pre Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) before he leaves?
  3. Question: My wife's father received his IR5 visa yesterday and it shows that it is only good for 3 months. It expires May 20, 2018. We assumed it would be good for 6 months, so we had already booked a flight to go to Manila and pick him up. Our return flight arrives in Dallas on the morning of May 19th. My question is, will there be any problems with him arriving only 1 day before the expiration of his visa? Does his visa have to be valid for some period of time after he arrives here? Any insights into this would be appreciated.

  5. Received text msg Friday night that my wife's father's I-130 application was approved. Yah! Also, my wife told me that her father already received a letter from USCIS at his home in Manila.
  6. No, we did not. My wife is petitioning to bring her father here. In the instructions it said to provide her parent's marriage certificate, her birth certificate and her certificate of naturalization. It did not say anything about OUR marriage certificate.
  7. The RFE was for proof of name change, (my wife changed her name when we got married). I did not read anything about that in the instructions when I was putting together the application. Anyway, I will mail a copy of our marriage certificate to them this weekend.
  8. I-130 for my spouse's father, filed 2/3/2017. Service Center is Nebraska.
  9. I just received a text msg that they are mailing us a RFE. Hope its nothing major.
  10. My wife filed an I-130 for her father to move here from the Philippines. Priority date is February 3, 2017. It went to the Nebraska service center. What is the next step and how long is the wait?
