  1. I only had to pay when I picked up the certificate. While I think the likelihood of the change in law passing is pretty high you don't have much to loose if you apply now.
  2. I think the “Beibehaltungsgenehmigung” is approved for.the specific circumstances you are applying for, they are basically assuming you are going to apply immediately after receiving the document, which is why they give you 2 years, The document is actually specific to the nationality you are applying for and not any other. I applied for naturalization the day I picked up the document and was naturalized about 90 days later. The part I found most annoying is that they keep no record of it, so every time I have to renew my German passport I have to show them the “Beibehaltungsgenehmigung”, at least that’s what they told me at the consulate.
  3. I had my interview a few weeks ago and noted some speeding tickets and driving with an expired tag, the fines were minor and the officer was surprised I even listed them. In your case I would say just list them on the application and give an explanation of them. Regarding your issue from 41 years ago, if there was no jail time involved then this probably more of a traffic citation and at that point not much of a concern I think. Regarding the Residence and Travel History, I think the application lists specifically 5 years, so this is all you need to worry about. This is just to make sure that you need the physical presence and residence requirements to file the N400.
  4. Thank you, basically once we got to my travel history I pointed out that I am going on a trip the next day. The office said that I shouldn’t get an oath ceremony that quickly but if I did I could just reschedule it.
  5. Death or divorce do not affect your green card as you can still process your i751 in those cases. Voting or a potential change in career is not a valid reason either. Proofing your ties to germany is easy, having family members living there and potential inheritance (if parents own a property for example) is usually enough to meet those requirements. Giving a reason why you need to apply for U.S. citizenship comes down to you explaining why a Green Card is not enough which is why most people do not qualify. You have to have a compelling reason or be in of the two exempt categories (retirement age and 10 years in the country or 20 years in the country regardless of age). That being said, even though I had the exemption I used an attorney for this as you have to explain your reasons in writing and I wanted to make sure I don’t have any issues just because I expressed myself poorly. So you could look for an attorney that specializes in this (I found several of them using google) and they can maybe phrase your reasons in a much more compelling way. Also, it took me about 13 months to get the certificate, do not apply for citizenship until you have it in-hand as I got my interview notice within 2-3 weeks of filing.
  6. Mine went well, it was approved in July and I have the certificate in-hand and my N400 interview in 3 weeks. The most difficult part is to document the reason for becoming a U.S. citizen, what reason are you giving? In my case I was in the U.S. for almost 25 years already and if you can document that it has been 20+ years they exempt you from that question.
  7. Thanks, I talked with my attorney yesterday and he suggested the same thing.
  8. Thank you, I just found the following online, if the website is correct I should have no issues as the next oath ceremony would be about a week after we come back. https://www.gand.uscourts.gov/naturalization
  9. So I filed my N400 20 days ago and just got my interview notice today which is scheduled for September 22nd, the day before my wife and I go on vacation. Assuming they still do the oath ceremony at the interview my wife wants me to reschedule, are there any problems doing that? I know this is not recommended but I did not expect it to be that quick.
  10. In my case they went through the application and asked a few additional questions about some of the evidence. I did not know some answers but I could explain why and I received the approval notice as I walked out of the building. At the end it felt like my case was already approved prior to the interview and it was just a formality.
  11. I just sent out my application today to the German Consulate and wanted to see if anyone has any recent experience with that. Thanks.
  12. I received my approval in the mail today. Filed 11/18 SRC No Biometrics Approval 4/14, no interview
  13. Just an update, I submitted additional information on the April 1st and the status changed today to "New Card Is Being Produced", no interview!
  14. So I just received the RFIE for my ROC and I am quite annoyed with it. The reason for the RFE was not enough evidence for a Good Faith Marriage. This is what we submitted with the form: Joint Tax Returns for 2018 and 2019 Joint Insurance for our Home and Car Joint Mortgage Statement (we submitted the joint purchase agreement with my AOS) Both Driver Licenses showing the same address All of our Joint Bank Accounts Pictures with us an my family, my wife's family and all of our vacations together. Joint purchase agreement for our new car last year. The RFE is saying that we do not have sufficient details showing shared responsibility of joint assets and liability, shouldn't everything I sent have been enough? Thanks.
