Forgot to update. I took the written test, passed all questions. And I can confrm you don't get a provisional license despite having a valid foreign license. I specifically asked about it, you only get a regular learner's permit.

I will hopefully take the road test soon!

Oh I'm not worried about the tests at all, the ones in my home country are much harder and I passed those without issues.

I'm just worried about the actual process (I read about permit this and permit that, age this and age that, insurance this and insurance that etc etc), seemed like a jungle to me. I feel better about it now though, hearing the experience from others who went through it as well. Will definitely go Monday or Tuseday to at least have the written test done. I have the weekend to practice the online tests.

Thank you all for your replies, it helps a lot!

Make sure the car you use for the test has all working parts: lights, horn, side mirrors, wipers, nothing can be broken. It should also be washed for visibility through the windows. Don't wear sunglasses, because the tester watches your eyes. Keep both your hands on the wheel; if you use a turn signal, put hands back on wheel immediately. Don't do anything without signaling. Know the arm signals, too. Don't back up or change lanes by mirrors--turn around and look.

Yes send me a PM if you need more details or moral support:) ha i was 22 when i got mine and just walked in and did the written test! like i said, they have at least 2 tests there plus i think their are 2 online. do them and most of the questions are the same! i got like 2 wrong on each but passed first try! just do your written and like i said, you have a full year to decide to go do the driving test! but no insurance needed. and like i said, the car you use needs to be insured to the person it is registered in!  if you are really worried, you can pay a driving school 100$ or something and they will let u use the car and give you an hour refresher course before!  i would just be comfortable with the dmv area you go to and the streets around there! if you drive in that area alot, you will be fine.  i hear sweden is alot like canada and in canada we have to do 2 driving test and the second one is an hour long!!! the california driving test was 15min and NO freeways!!!! inbox me if you have anxiety:) lmao!

california is easy and joke. you are thinking too much! please, just go to the DMV read the 2 or 3 study guide tests and do the written exam.  worry about that. you have 5 tries in that one day to pass. if not, you pay 10$ and go back the next day (i believe).

no, you get the insurance after. well, you need to be insured now on your husbands car to drive it. SOME insurances will allow an out of country ID, some wont.

when you drive in the driving test the CAR you used MUST be insured. it doesnt need to have your name on it, just be insured by THE PERSON who MATCHES the registration.

no, you dont need someone in the car with you because you are older then 18 and you have a VALID license from another country.  but i wouldnt reccomend waiting that long. TBH i was from canada and i was insured in my car on my canadian license and kinda lazy to go do the driving test (young and stupid! HAHA)

so when your husband insured his car, he needs to add you to the insurances.

but no, you dont need insurance to do a driving test. i used my friends car and i was NOT on her insurance.  where do you life in CA? just go to the DMV on monday and show them your GC, social and then do the written test.  it isnt hard.  after that, sign up to do the driving test.

Yes I was thinking of just going and see what they say. The problem is that I would really like to avoid standing in a three hour line just be told I can't have the test because I don't have all the required permits and stuff. And the DMV site os a jungle! It just makes me even more confused, so it seems impossible to figure out the answers to my questions before going there. Hard to prepare then.

Thank you! I've been lurking for a while but haven't posted a whole lot.

Spend some of that money on a TB test for yourself. It is contagious, if she does have it. Don't put your fellow Americans at risk just because you are impatient.

Happens a lot. I had the same thing happen to my i-129f, got text messages and emails about it being updated a year after the approval and I was already living in the US.

Also happened to my EAD application, got text messages about "updates" two months after I already had the card in hand.

Of course you can, they haven't started looking into your case yet. When they do, you'll either receive a NOA2, an RFE or an intent to deny. The cashed check only means they accepted your case (no fundamental parts of the package were missing and the check was written out correctly), it only means it wasn't flat out rejected. They won't look closer into your case or make a decision until several weeks from now. Maybe months.

January? The new fees are effective from December 23, meaning it's already too late to pay the old fee. I'm 99% sure USCIS won't go easy on anyone, they'll reject each and every package that doesn't have the correct new fee if the package was postmarked on the 23rd or later. Just the other day they rejected someone for sending a check that was $7 more than it was supposed to.
I believe they changed all fees on USCIS webpage on the 23rd as well, so they have done everything correct. It's up to the filers to look closely.

Get the official IRS transcript, it has all schedules attached the format is a lot less pages.
Being self employed you definitely want to send transcripts, not just the 1040 copies.
Many have received RFE's including myself.
You can submit a bank letter showing when account was opened and the last 12 months deposits.
I made a projected income business ledger and wrote a letter explaining everything plus some other things.

I know it says on the NOA2 that USCIS has sent your approved petition to NVC but that's often not the case. So don't be angry at NVC, the fault is with USCIS. Sometimes they just take forever to send approved petitions and no one seems to know why. When you ask USCIS about it you just get bs answers each time.

Yep, sereques. Those are the requirements for the i-129f petition. The K-1 visa is a whole other matter though. Very country specific.
