I moved to Haiti in 2011 and met my hubs shortly thereafter; at that point he was just my nice but slightly annoying neighbor. I wasn't interested at first but we became friends over a period of about 8 months when my feelings changed and we started dating in July of 2012. He passed the test with my mom and my closest friends (in Haiti and from the US); we were engaged in September 2013 and married in November 2014. We're anxious to get settled in the States, for him to see and experience more of my home culture and to start planning to expand our family. I didn't come to Haiti looking for a husband, but God had other plans and I'm so thankful. I couldn't ask for a better partner in life.
It's encouraging, but no less nerve-wrecking, to have friends who have successfully navigated the DCF process in Haiti already. We're planning to start next month (March 2015).
