  1. Hello fellow US Citizens. With the war in our home country of Ukraine many of our parents fled to the nearby European countries, and my mom was one of them. I contacted the embassy in Bucharest to see what can be done to bring her safely to the US. She has not been here before and had one b1/b2 denial while I was a green card holder. (for understandable reasons, but at the same time I'm like how can I ask someone to commit to move here through family reunion if they never got a chance to come check it out. anyway. so now it's exactly what's gonna be happening - going back to Ukraine is not an option and luckily I'm a USC so here we go.) I called to the US Embassy in Romania to see how I can take her in. The consulate stated I have to fly in person to Romania and petition in person with their office. So here I am at 1 am filling out I-130 and I-864. I have a flight booked for next week so this is the time to get all the ducks in a row. So far these are the questions I have: I-130 questions: For beneficiary's PHYSICAL address - I understand it as where she is physically located in Romania with a host family. ADDRESS ABROAD - that is the home address in Ukraine... if anything is left of it.. do you fill that out still in English or in native letters? Some forms used to ask to fill this out in native letters, I do not see anything like this so I assume in English is ok. For the physical registration address in Ukraine we have a certificate from the national registry stating that is her address and did have this paper certified translated. Where it will ask about beneficiary's employment - she is disabled and has a little "disability passport book" idk what to call it - in America it's like a veteran's card they carry. I am thinking to have that certified translated just in case, what do you think? For parent #2 - my biological father is deceased but he passed away after that got divorced (I have a divorce decree certified translated), not sure if I still list the name and just say "deceased" where it is asking about country of residence... I-864 questions: For taxes we filed "married filing jointly" - so I would list the joint total income, correct? Since this counts as my income as well and there is also a line that is asking for the name of any other person whose income is being used. Should my husband write a little cover page that we will add as an attachment that he is fully on board with using his income? These are all the questions I can think of so far, please let me know if you have any other input and if someone is flying to file in person let's stay in touch. Thank you.
  2. In a nutshell timing could not have been worse. Just as I became a US Citizen the celebration bells changed to war in my home country.... I am a naturalized citizen and wanted to "eventually" petition for my mom as we were planning to have a baby and have her help. But the war has started in Ukraine and now I'm getting my mom to safety in Europe first and my "eventually" turns into a lot more urgent situation. Just because I am scared that she is alone in a foreign country. I'd naturally try to get her here asap. She has never been to US and has no tourist visa. It would be family reunion I'd request for. Main questions are whether these requests are being expedited in light of the situation. And also in regard to adress, when my husband filed for me as an "alien relative" it was easy because we lived under the same roof. But for me to file for my mom do I list her home address in Ukraine or wherever she lands in Europe? Cause how would she get biometric notice letter etc. I'm trying to start researching now because it is a unique situation and it might help someone else, as I'm sure a lot of Ukrainian Americans like myself find themselves asking these questions. So I suggest to keep this thread for anything related to bringing USC's Ukrainian parents from Europe. That way we can bounce ideas off each other and stay up to date with any updates and suggestions.
  3. Update: My name change decree was sent a week later to my old address ans that's what wasted 12 weeks of my time contacting tier 2 Went to the local district Court and got it printed out 5 minutes later. Got my social updated. Now there is war in Ukraine so I gotta bring my mom here... it's one thing after another I guess.. so I'll be sticking around the forum on other topic threads. Good luck everyone.
  4. Hi guys! I have a slight problem. I never got my legal name change in the mail... We have moved right in the middle of the n 400 process. My interview was August 26, 2021 and I was approved. Yay! BUT... as we were in the middle of moving I advised the officer right there and then hey I will still have my current address for 7 more days and then August 31st I will have a new address. He said no problem just update inside your USCIS account. Which I did. For some reason it did not work maybe because case was closed by the time they got to process it is what I suspect. Anyway long story short oath ceremony was September 16th. It was over a video chat where the judge was on the TV screen and said you are all approved and we will mail the name change to you and give you naturalization certificate today. Of course on the day of ceremony I was too busy waving the flag and clapping my hands, clenching my naturalization certificate haha so I did not write down the judges name or which court the judge belongs to. From the date of the ceremony you are supposed to wait 4 to 12 weeks for name change order to be delivered by mail. I wait and noting. So I call to contact center and they say a tier 2 officer will get to you give it 30 days. So another month passes and all I get is automated email along the lines of "if you need a copy of your name change order you may request it from the court". Um ok which court? So I call around to family court like hey do you have any records, they say no, I call immigration court they say no we are not the court either, we are the sad court that put people into deportation proceedings. The lady was really nice and funny. So I call back to try to get an info pass again or have tier 2 officer reach out, get a new service number. I have not tried district Court or federal court yet so that's my plan for today. Moral of the story: don't move in the middle of the process if you can help it. This is so frustrating because I notified him right there and then hey I only have my current address for 7 more days and then it's a new address. And apparently changing it inside my account did not work. I tried filing AR 11 but the auto response was unable to process request due to case being closed. You don't say Sherlock haha. Every time I call asking for info pass or a call back from tier 2 I wait 30 days and then it's auto generated email. Today I'm uo at 4 am waiting to head over to the local office so I can ask the security guard at the door which court I need to go to so I can try and get a copy of a name change order. Otherwise I cannot get the ball rolling with updating drivers license and everything else and most importantly all these things I will be needing to get a passport. What a mess. One last hill to climb I guess. If anyone knows the name of the court which processes the legal name change that you request during n400 please let me know! When you think you've seen it all, there are many things that can still go wrong I guess. Just sharing my experience. It is very hard to get anyone to get back to you. Maybe I'm just stressed out, seems pretty straightforward to just request a copy of the record from a court but I don't know what court to contact ao I'm just going down the list calling every court there is in downtown. Best of luck to everyone and I'll keep you posted.
  5. I couldn't remember one of my trips exit dates. The officer let me use my phone to look up my email or Instagram. They ask you in the end if information provided is "to the Best of your knowledge and belief", meaning you gave as truthful answers as possible honest to God. What they are looking for is continuous residency that you have been continuously living here that’s all. You'll be ok just be honest.
  6. I PASSED this morning. OATH SCHEDULED September 16th. Las Vegas office. Interview scheduled for 10:30 a.m. arrived at 10 am and my husband stood there with my box of files while I waited in the AC in the car like the princess I am 😂 Got called in. At the door security said i do not need that box of files since I'm just doing my test and leave it with him, if we need something they will let me out. Got grabbed from the lobby by 10:33 am. Officer was proper. Not too stern just serious but friendly at the same time.. like he is just doing his job. Professional. I could not remember one of my trips which was the latest one date of departure and he allowed me to look through my cell phone to find out the date. I did place tabs in my passport for any arrival stamps so that helped. We did test right away before we moved on to yes or no to get it out of the way. Questions: only asked 6 cause I got it all correct and we stopped after that. 1. We elect senator for how many years? - 6 2. When was declaration of independence written? - 1787 3. When president can no longer serve, who becomes president? - Vice President 4. What are 2 rights? -Freedom of speech and religion. 5. What is the responsibility only for US Citizen? - To vote In federal election Reading: "What do we pay to the Governent?" Writing: "We pay taxes" Then we discussed the yes or no very quickly. Just like have you ever been a member of and then a bunch of stuff. Went over my "parking citations". Were 3 speeding tickets but reduced by a lawyer to parking. And paid all fines. We went over the name change request and I signed those forms for the court. The officer explained very clearly every step. Went over the address change as we just moved. So I filed AR11 the night before and we discussed I need usps change of address. At the end we discovered my biometric pictures were more than 5 years old. So I was given a paper "Decision cannot yet be made" BUT if I went down the street and took 2 passport photos and brought it back today then I get the paper that says. "Congratulations you are approved". So 45 min later after 2 walgreens that didn't have photo booth I dropped that off to the receptionist and she said she will pass it to the officer when he comes out to grab the next person. I logged on at 5 pm to my uscis and it says "Oath Letter has been mailed." Under documents tab. Oath ceremony is scheduled for September 16th. Officer complimented my organization and that I filed everything by myself every time. Interview lasted 1 hour. Now we wait until the ceremony! Good luck guys you are almost there!
  7. Notice July 25th. Interview August 26th. 30 days. Also you can refer to the excel spreadsheet with all timelines listed. Hope this helps.
  8. How is this for an outfit? Short heels with a dress and a jacket. And I got the certificate holder just in case it is a same-day ceremony. Please let me know what you all think!
  9. Thank you! Just needed to know the date of the interview because I've been so anxious. It's scheduled for August 26th. 30 days from today!
  10. Guysssss! I had movement on the case! (Indert chubby panda dancing here) So! Quick recap: Filed 9/27/2020 Bio reuse letter 2/13/2021 Email "action has been taken" today 7/25/2021. Logged in and says "interview was scheduled". Here is the tricky part I need help with! Today is also a day we got the keys to the new place so normally today is the day I get on USPS and set up mail forwarding as well as address change AR 11. I am not sure on my best course of action. I still have access to the current mail box until August 31st. I'm scared that if I file AR 11 change of address today it will delay them mailing me the letter. So I can gamble and wait the 10 days (cause you're supposed to file change of address within 10 days) and then on day 9 fill out change of address hoping that within the next 9 days my interview letter is gonna get mailed out to me. One way or another I will get it because I will set up mail forwarding but I guess I'm just anxious to delay something if I fill out change of address ASAP. I was thinking maybe I can just call the phone number and see what they suggest. Anyway thanks for reading I think I'm overthinking because I'm so excited! 😆
  11. I mean I only got biometrics reuse letter and nothing after that. I filed 9/27/20 and I still have no interview date. So very well might be over a year. It's been almost 11 month already. Hopefully soon! Fingers crossed!
  12. Same here. Applied September 27th, 2020 Bio reuse letter was February 13th, 2021 Nothing after that. We just have to remember that at the end of September there were a ton of people filing. It's not bad news that seems like everyone is getting theirs - it just means we are coming up eventually. Hopefully soon!
  13. Congratulations! Finally you are done!!! It definitely gives me hope because I applied September 27th and only heard back about biometrics reuse, no interview notice so far. Estimated case completion was July 2021 and now got moved to November. If it's done in November I'll take it as a Christmas gift!
