I-551 Stamp for CR1/IR1

There seems to be some confusion recently with many new arrivals claiming they did not receive an I-551 stamp at POE. In my experience the entry stamp endorsement you receive IS the I-551 stamp.

It should look like this:

post-47657-1235761393_thumb.jpg

AUG 24 2008 = my arrival date

CR1 = my visa class

AUG 23 2010 = expiration date before which I need to apply to remove conditions (IR1 holders won't need to do this)

Blanked section = alien registration number written in by CBP officer

This stamp should be on the same/adjacent page to your visa and correspond with the "UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY 1-551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR 1 YEAR" instruction printed on the visa under your photo.

I hope this makes sense and eases some confusion. (and if anyone had a different experience or received a different stamp please share it)

We had POE through Newark yesterday. They put the stamp in the passport and not on the visa. The office wrote CR1 on it but did not put an expiration date or sign it. We did not realize it until we were through check in for the second leg of our flight. How do we resolve this or is it a problem?

Thanks for sharing this.

I have this stamp but the only thing they wrote is "CR1". Nothing else.

Should I be worried? IF something happens back home, am I allowed to travel if I have not received the GC yet?

That is all I had on mine as well and I had no issues at all travelling out of and back into the US prior to the arrival of my green card.
