2 year GC vs. 10 year GC

So am thinking WAYYYYY ahead of myself but am in the Houston office which is not moving whatsoever so yea.

it is highly possible that by the time my GC interview rolls around, I'll be married for more than 2 years which means am getting the 10 year and not the 2 year GC

Anybody have thoughts on the Pros and Cons of the 2 year vs. 10 year GC?

So I know the big pro is not having to file ROC- but is the path to citizenship faster?
Clearly most likely EAD/AP will have to be renewed since those are valid one year, etc.

Thanks guys!

Well the advantage is skipping ROC, but you'll still have to wait until 3 years after your GC is issued to apply for citizenship, well 90 days before 3 years anyway.

You skip ROC but the path to the citizenship is the same.

You don't need any EAD or AP after your green card is issued though.

It won't change citizenship requirements, but skipping ROC is definitely a nice plus.

Well if I get an EAD by end of year, It will have to be renewed because the GC won't be here by the time it expires- hence the 2 year marriage timeline.
Thanks!

That's all I wanted to know- if path remains the same/longer or shorter.

Okay. Thank you!
Because this had me super uber worried that I was delaying an already longer process.
I guess I just gotta sit out the EAD timeline for now

My wife entered the US about a month short of our 2 year wedding anniversary........I wish we had delayed her entry for a month.......I see no advantage to a 2 yr GC vs a 10 year GC.

If you asked about CR-1/IR-1 vs K-1, now that's a completely different animal...😀

If you have to wait over a year to get your 2 years GC, i would like to wait after two years marriage anniversary and get a 10 years GC. It saves money, I think when you applied 10 years GC, you have to pay again and show proof of your relationship again and it is 1-2 years waiting now for people who are now applying the 10 years GC.

But how can you delay your interview if your interview comes ?

Is this possible? I heard that even if your first GC takes more than 2 years to be approved it will still be an 2 years GC and not a 10 years. If that's true I am almost skipping ROC.

It has to do with how long you are married at the time of approval, not processing time.

I have read this and the thought never even come across my mind. WOW!!! We are in Montgomery, AL FO. The office is also backlogged to June 2016 for family petitions.

My question is: Is the hassle of having to renew the EAD and possibly loosing your current job to waiting to get the 10 year GC a good deal? I mean you would not get an answer for at least 24 months for a AOS interview, but you skip ROC....

8/7/2017                    NOA-1

3/1/2018                    NOA-2

3/15/2018                  NVC case received

3/22/2018                  NVC case assigned

3/23/2018                  Consulate ready

4/11/2018                  Medical

4/17/2018                  Visa Approved

4/24/2018                  Visa on hand

5/23/2018                  Point of Entry ATL

5/24/2018                  Marriage license, officiant and certificate / applied for SS#

5/31/2018                  AOS/AP/EAD

6/7/2018                    email notification of NOA-1

6/11/2018                  NOA-1 hard copies for AOS/EAD/AP

6/27/2018                  Biometrics for AOS/EAD

7/7/2018                    ready to be scheduled for interview

7/11/2018                  We are still reviewing your case and there are no updates at this time (email from USCIS)

8/22/2018                  We are still reviewing your case and there are no updates at this time (same email again)

9/5/2018                     We are still reviewing your case and there are no updates at this time (this is getting boring!!!)

10/3/2018                  We are still reviewing your case and there are no updates at this time (this is insanity, 4th time while some got GC)

10/17/2018                After 136 days of wait in HELL, finally EAD in production

10/21/2018                Card was mailed to me, and yes it said so on a Sunday night, while Vj-ing

10/22/2018                Card was picked up by the USPS

10/24/2018                EAD in hand. F%^&& finally

12/28/2018                Interview has been scheduled. Waiting for notification with date by snail mail

EAD renewal doesn't really have anything to do with it either (unless I am misunderstanding your question).
