Hello VY, just curious my fiancé doesn’t currently have an ‘A’ number she simply uses her B2 visa when she comes here and it gets stamped, when it’s time to get her drivers license in Florida I found I need one of these for her;

1. Primary Identification

An original or certified copy of one of the following documents:

  • Valid alien registration receipt card (green card, form I-551);
  • I-551 stamp in passport or on I-94;
  • Immigration judge’s order, containing the customer’s A-number (admissions number),
    granting asylum;
  • I-797, containing the customer’s A-number, stating the customer has been granted asylum; or
  • I-797, or another form from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), with the customer’s A-number, stating the customer’s application for refugee status is approved.

I can’t recall where a beneficiary via the I 129 F gets any of these?

Thanks

I'm in Florida .. I had to wait until I got my temp greencard. But I am also from Canada and my Canadian license was still valid so I was able to use that.

As far as I know Florida you do not need an EAD I never showed one.

I was told at the DMV greencard but it was just a convo with the clerk at the check in desk and didnt go beyond that until I had it since I could still drive

Thanks to both of you, I think I’ll call I can’t imagine waiting for a green card to beigin driving but I will find out.

Looks like she can use an International Driving Permit (IDP) for a few months; https://www.flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/visiting-florida-faqs/:

Quote

When must a driver get a Florida driver license?

You must get a Florida license within 30 days of becoming a resident. You are considered a resident of Florida if you:

  1. Enroll your children in public school, or
  2. Register to vote, or
  3. File for a homestead exemption, or
  4. Accept employment, or
  5. Reside in Florida for more than six consecutive months.

Some info on getting the IDP in Bolivia: http://acbbolivia.com.bo/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=31&Itemid=126

Your Input Is Appreciated On This VJ Guide Proposal:

Google "Florida Acceptable Document Table" and download the document at this link: https://www.flhsmv.gov/ddl/aila/acceptabledocuments.pdf.  This is the state's internal document that lists all the different ways to prove legal presence in the state of Florida for getting a DL.  Thankfully the options are not as limited as the list you initially posted.  Hopefully the documents your fiance has are included in the list.

Back in 2013 when my husband got his license, our lawyer gave us this document and it was a good thing she did.  They initially said he couldn't get one but we pulled out their document and showed them that they were permitted to do it.  I don't fault them for not knowing all the various forms and we were happy to see they were willing to learn a little something from us.  We had to be persistent, but the fact that we were politefully pushy was probably a good choice.  They could have easily turned us away if they wanted to.

Good luck!

You should bring whatever documents the acceptable documents table lists for his current situation. Bring a print out of that section of the table as well so they see it is from their documentation.

Good luck

Have full uk driving license for many years.

Will I need to take knowledge check and practical test in order to get a Florida license ?

If so does this all need to be done within the 30 day requirement ?
