Expect more delays

Folks,

My husband works for DHS-USCIS. He has informed me that there have been a massive number of lay-offs in all departments of USCIS in the past few weeks. 

I would suspect this would cause more delays for processing. 

Let's hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

According to the reason they gave, they said it's "budget" reasons, but that could just be a curtain response.

I thought visa processing was self funded by our fees......

 

I haven't noticed a large decrease in number of petitions submitted.

Contractors or employees? Either one doesn't make much sense since USCIS is funded via fees, so if they're letting people go, then that means the volume of work has dipped too. And I'm skeptical it is employees, since fed agencies do RIFs (reduction in force) when there is basically no other option to cut the budget. They're more likely to have employees take leave w/out pay than RIFs.

I'm unsure about the status of those that have been let go. My thought was the same that since they're self-funded, why the "budget" reason was given. Like I said, the response is most likely a curtain response and there's more going on than we know. Given how slow things are anyway, I wouldn't be surprised though if any of this does have an impact on those that are currently waiting this process.

My take on all of this is, perhaps, with less workers=less petitions being processed=less immigrants coming in. 

I could very well be looking at it all wrong, but that's my thinking as to why the sudden number of lay-offs are really happening.,

My take on this is that perhaps these layoffs are not contracted workers ( who are the folks who process our self-funded petitions ).....who knows?

I don't know, but usually in the case of lay-offs, contractors are the first to go. I hope it doesn't impact the process much, but the large quantities being let go is alarming, even for those people losing the jobs.

There is also the DACA factor. Since that policy is currently "in limbo", perhaps the personnel changes are due to that.

Funny that I can't find any news articles about this?  One would think if there were "massive layoffs" from any government agency related to immigration CNN or MSNBC would be reporting this every 10 minutes and blaming President Trump for it.
