Give This RFE Letter A Look For Me?

Seems simple enough, but want the opinion of others. Got an RFE today that states I didn’t make enough to sponsor my wife (I made $41,000 last year, requirement for a household of three is $26,000 according to the website). After giving me information about a cosponsor, the bottom of the page just states that I didn’t submit evidence of my income. Seems crazy, maybe part of our packet was lost, idk, but that seems to just be what they’re wanting, right? I have no problems sending what they want, but seems that’s the only thing, correct? If they genuinely want a joint sponsor, that’s a whole other process for us to take care of.

Thanks for looking.

What evidence of your income did you send initially?

The wording is generic. You either did not meet the 125% income level OR they didn't have sufficient evidence of your income and therefore couldn't count it...again not meeting the 125% income level. The last line there implies it was the latter.

If it was the latter, for instance I supplied three years W2's to match the 3 years IRS transcripts I sent also. Can get them here: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

And just for over kill I sent in 6 pay stubs (or three months of paychecks essentially).

We had provided a statement from my employer and my 2017 tax return. For the original  K1, I had also given them bank statements and a few months of pay stubs, but didn’t send any of that this time. Seems that I should have.

Also, my wife is wondering about this: I did not get my tax refund this year because I owed the IRS money from a previous year. (I had apparently filed incorrectly while I was living abroad and wasn’t actually supposed to get the refund that I received) There is still a balance of $500 due. For me, this is independent of what I actually make, but she’s wondering if it would have anything to do with it.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, I had done all that for the K1 and still can for this. I just wanted to know if that is actually what they’re asking for and not a joint sponsor. I think I just didn’t send them enough evidence.

Probably because if you are at $41,000 that should suffice.  And the IRS transcripts just show what you made and that you filed. If you have documents showing you are paying them money owed then supply that too to show you're trying to be in good standings. It could be a cause; but hey, they may have just misplaced a piece of paperwork also, they make mistakes like everyone else.

Yeah, definitely include those pay stubs. An employment letter is a promise to pay, but on its own it's not much for a CO to go on. I think it was Uber that said their drivers make like $90k in NYC...although most make way less than that. Tax returns for an employee show past income, not current income (but are still required). Pay stubs would be the most important piece of evidence to include here IMO.

A tax debt can be part of the consideration against you, although only $500 is unlikely to sway somebody. If it was larger, it might not hurt to include a current statement showing that it is being paid off.

Hello,

Congratulations on getting the interview date. I have a question, hopefully, you can give your perspective. We received a notification that we are documentarily qualified and our case is complete on July 3rd, and that they are trying to schedule the interview. But we have not received any other news. Can you please tell me when you received your "case complete email" and when you received the interview date? It has been 13 days for us (of course, I recognize that there were both US and Argentine independence day holidays in the mix.) and the wait is killing us. I have had to postpone several events because this process has taken too long for us, but I just am trying to gauge the timeline for this last bit of the process. Any observations you can provide are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
