Uploading a picture for DS-160

Hi friends,

I have a question.

I'm about to fill out the DS-160, but I'm not sure how to go about the picture.

I already tried taking a picture myself and uploading it, but the quality doesn't meet the standards. (also it shows up sideways for some reason)

How did you guys go about this?

Selfies, professional pictures?

And what about scanning them in?

I'd obviously like to have this figured out so I can get my final things together, but I'd like some insight from you guys.

So any advice is highly appreciated :D

Thanks

Professional picture. Be sure the photographer knows the requirements for US visa picture. (Size, proportions, other requirements). Asked for the digital copy and also printed out 6 at the lab on photo paper for the medical and interview. Used the digital copy for the DS-160.

Be sure the picture is crisp and all focused. Turns out mine was not completely perfect despite the professional setting. The lady at the interview almost didn't take the picture, but in the end it was accepted, but she said I should not use that for further documents and get a new one.
