Address Change / Driver's Licenses

Hi all - ugh, things just coming up and up as we work on our I-751 and I keep getting panicked that we are going to miss something or do something wrong.

We moved apartments (#2 to #3) last year. Same house, just moved downstairs to upstairs.

Both my husband and myself have the same address on our driver's license, but is is our old apartment (#2). We did submit the AR-11 and I-865 as required and our lease reflects our new address. But since our driver's license still contains our old address - do you think this is going to cause an issue since our lease and everything else is Apt #3 not #2?

According to CO Department of Revenue, we can change our address by:

  1. Change your address online. After changing your address online, print your own label (for example, a return address label) with your new address and attach it to the back of your driver license, permit or ID card.  You will not be mailed a new license, permit or ID card.

We are filing May 4th.

We did change our address before filing for our I-751. I gave them copies of our ID's containing the old address & our new ID with our new address. The old lease and new lease for your apartment should be a good proof that you have moved apartments. As long as your addresses match up, I think there's no need to worry.

OK great thanks. Colorado doesn't require you to get a whole new ID if you change address hence why we haven't, but it just sunk in now that it might cause an issue. You never know right? All of our other documentation (joint tax transcripts, car insurance, apartment insurance, utility bills, bank statements) reflects our new address, so it is very clearly we both still live together, I just get slightly paranoid any little thing could cause an issue.

This whole experience has made me neurotic.

Yes this whole process is unnerving at times, but try to stay calm. All they need from you are proof that you guys live in the same address. I suggest when you make photocopies of both your IDs that you do it on the same page.

Just circling around here. We ended up making an InfoPass appointment to make sure as we didn't want any issues. Although we did file the AR-11, it was not updated in USCIS system. So they updated it there at our appointment and now everything is good.

Ultimately, we were told it likely would have been fine to just file the I-751 regardless, however the Officer did say it never hurts to be extra cautious so at least now we can rest easy and know it is indeed updated, in the case that there were any complications.

So if this happens to anyone else I would encourage you to just make the InfoPass and get things squared away, as it sounds like AR-11 can have some technical issue as it did in our case.
