Should I be present for my wife's CR-1 Visa interview

Howdy,

I'm sure this has been asked and answered more than once, but I didn't have any luck in text searches, so I apologize for the repeat.

We just had our i-130s approved and our packets were sent to NVC.  From everything I've read, my wife will do her Visa interview at the Embassy in Costa Rica.  I'm unsure if her daughter (who was separately approved as a minor child) will have to have an interview at all.  For my wife's interview, I believe that I read here a while back that I would not be required to be present.

So, I guess I have 2 questions:

1) Will her (10 yr old) daughter have to do an interview?

2) Am I required to be at my wife's interview?  If I'm not required, am I ALLOWED to be present?

Thanks,

Alex

I do not know the answer to your first question so I'll leave that for someone with knowledge in that area. Regarding the second question, you are not required to be at the interview. Whether you are allowed or not varies by embassy, so you should check with the Costa Rica embassy directly as to whether they allow this or not.

The 10year old is required to be present at the interview. Might be asked one or two questions

Everyone immigrating to the USA is required to have an interview.  Check your country portal to find out if it's best for you to be at the interview or not.  For instance for the DR while the official word is that the USC does not need to be there, in reality they do.

Country portal?  Do you mean on this site? I was planning to just call the embassy directly at some point, but if there's some info here in the mean time, that'd be helpful, too.

Here are the links to your specific embassy information.  The information listed here states YES spouses/fiances are allowed at the interview.

http://www.visajourney.com/portals/index.php?country=Costa+Rica  Yes, on your page your country portal will have all the posts made by VJ members dealing with your same consulate.  There is alot of helpful information and experiences to read there.

Generally, if you are able to attend it is helpful to go.  It gives the IO good impression and adds some confidence of bonafide relationship.

However, it is not necessary and does not guarantee approval. Many are not able to and they are still approved.  I don't believe Costa Rica is a difficult embassy.  So with that, if you can afford it and you want to go to lend support then go.
