My husband and I got married last night. We received a temporary marriage cerificate. With our names, date, location, witnesses, person who marries us etc. It will take 8-10 weeks to get the official marriage cerificate. Should I wait to get the formal certicate or is the temporary enough to file?  I am eager😁

8 to 10 weeks??? When we got married in Florida it only took not more than 1 week to receive it in the mail. And at the courthouse we ordered a few copies because we knew we would need to send 1 for AOS

Not sure what you mean by temporary certificate. Is it the marriage license?

It’s the paper the person who married us filled out and signed  it has our license number on it. But it is a temporary cerificate. Just on a half page

If the temporary certificate you got at the courthouse is a certified one then I think it should be fine. They usually want a certified copy. Mine has all the county clerk seals, in the front and back of the paper. The day we married we requested to be mailed to us a couple of certified copies so we would have one for the AOS.  The temporary certificate we got that day was not certified.

Where did you get married?'

the reason that I ask is because this will determine if you need to order a marriage certificate, or when one will be sent to you.  For example, in ON it can take 1-3 months to get the marriage certificate back (closer to the 3m mark.)  In AB you have to order it specifically even though the signed marriage license allows you to change your name etc, it's not a marriage certificate and cannot be used as one.

If you were married in the USA you will have to figure out if the city, county, or state has regulations regarding marriage certificates.

WOW!  We got married in Arkansas on Saturday.  We brought the signed marriage license back to the county clerks office Monday morning and got the original plus 4 copies back immediately!

It would be helpful to know where the OP's marriage took place but the time from for the certificate sounds correct for Ontario.

Yes if you were married in ON it takes about 2-3 months to get thr marriage certificate.  You WILL need that before you can file.  While you're at it, make sure you have your long form birth certificate.  If you plan on changing your name you'll need to change your passport too.
